Didn't get what you wanted for Christmas? Here's your chance to correct that and buy a 1975 Harley Davidson XR750 dirt track racer. Genuine. no-frills. half-mile racer last ridden professionally on the East Coast in the late 80's. early 90's. I bought it from another racer "as-is" to use as spares for my vintage XR750 road racer and dirt tracker but never did anything with it aside from store it for the last 15 years. This bike has no title nor registration as it was always a race job and never tagged or ridden on the street. I will provide a bill of sale at the time of sale if desired.
The frame has crash damage to the front down tubes where the forks hit the stops and some additional damage to the rear of the seat/fender combination. This bike was raced during the time that Harley hadn't quite figured out ignitions and it has an owner developed battery/coil system on it. There were a lot of different systems out there bridging the gap between the old magneto and newer electronic set-ups and this is one which is reliable but a bit ugly with a Sportster type timing cover modified for the XR cams and gears.
1975 engine with mini-sump. 40 mm forks. nbsp;Grimeca rear brake. flat-slide Mikuni carbs. after market frame (Knight maybe?) with box section swing arm. and SuperTrapp exhausts. It isn't fancy but it is an XR750 in "as raced" condition and ready for someone to restore. I had thoughts of converting this bike into a street tracker. but it is just too far down the list of priorities for me to accomplish. The next owner (you?) can do that or put it back on the track or on display. The bike will need work before running it as it has not been started since I got it (and the frame needs repair as shown in the photos).
This engine has a 1975 serial number (1C10029H5) and has modified heads with both intake and exhaust ports raised for better (downdraught) breathing. The mods were done by the prior owner/builder and are among several unique features of this XR.
I would prefer local pick-up (Southern Maryland) so that the buyer can see the bike first-hand and to save the shipping and crating effort. I may be able to deliver the bike within reason and will ship if we have to with costs to be determined at that time for crating or any special packaging needs (aside from pushing the bike into a trailer and tying it down). $500 deposit required (no refund) within 3 days of the closing bid with the rest payable at pickup/shipping. Cash or check preferred except for PayPal deposit. Deposit will not be refunded but you are welcome to see the bike beforehand or ask questions which I will try to answer as best I can before you commit to a bid. I do not have a reserve price so the highest bid gets the bike.
If you haven't ridden one of these XRs you simply have not experienced one of biggest thrills around as they are powerful. tractable. responsive. quick handling bikes that sound better than anything else out there except. perhaps. a WW2 fighter - and that's debatable!
I hate selling any of my race Harleys as they are simply too few of them out there. and I know I'm unlikely to replace one once it's sold BUT this is a spare bike that I simply will not get to and do not have any specific plans for. I'm confident that someone else will. Good luck!
