Up for bid is a 1960 Harley Davidson Sportster XLH. It is in mostly original condition except for the parts listed in the description. It has not been started since 1985 when it was parked due to a slipping clutch. The bike also smoked when parked. The bike has been stored OUTSIDE under an awning on the north side of a building since 1985. It is greasy and dirty as can be seen in the photos. It no doubt will need work to run. It has a clear title. Green in colorHas some surface rust. including little specks all over the chrome bits. No serious rust on the bike. Odometer reads 10. 24 and is believed to be accurate. but no guarantees. Original Motor and Frame. Top end has not been opened since at least 1966 and is believed to have never been opened at all. Tanks. air filter cover and existing fenders do not have any dents except for one quarter sized dent at the very back end of the rear fender and one pea sized dent on the front fender. The front pipe cover is dented all over. The paint has scratches and wear marks. especially on the rear fender behind the seat. 6-volt battery system. The inside of the battery box was modified to take a larger 6 volt battery. The outside of the box has two pea sized dents. The drive chain and shifter is on the right side of this bike. with the brake pedal on the left side. The starter lever is a longer than stock version taken from a 1974 Harley. The right rear crash bar has been modified to accommodate the longer lever and has many scratches on it. This bike comes with an extra set of unmodified rear crash bars. The saddle was taken from a 1953 Harley 2 stroke. This bike was wrecked in April of 1978. During that crash the original forks were damaged beyond repair. The forks/fork assembly. front wheel/brake assembly. and front fender were installed after the wreck and came from a 1972 Harley. The headlight is larger than the original. It has a dime sized dent in the top. The gauge cluster is custom aluminum. The speedometer is the original. Also has an ammeter and a dial for regulating battery charge at different RPMs. Another aluminum plate was installed under the left side of seat with a light switch. killswitch toggle and a fuse. The horn is aftermarket. Front tire is the original that was on the bike when new. Also included is the original front rim and a few other parts.
I hesitate to call this bike rare or a barn find because it just isn't. However there is something special about a complete Harley from this era that is so close to original.
