SOMEONE SENT ME THIS INFO ABOUT THE PEDERSEN WILDCAT,This is a Pederson Wildcat. Actually far more scarce than a Hodaka,There is a Ken Smith book, Hodaka, he Complete Story of Americas Favorite Trail Bike," which briefly mentions other brands that used either Hodaka motors, r motors made by Fuji Motors, he financial investor that gave Hodaka a leg up back in the 60's. The Pederson Wildcat was a bit of a scandal at the time because Pederson didn't have permission or license to import and sell the Wildcat in the U.S. The engines used in the Pederson were, believe, otary valve engines built at the request of Fuji by Hodaka in Japan, nd sold as accessory engines in the U.S. by Pabatco at the insistence of Hodaka. Pederson designed a frame, ourced parts, ncluding the accessory engines, nd produced a small number of so-called Wildcats, ut did so without all the usual governmental and industrial paperwork that would be necessary to offer them for sale. There is information on the Web regarding the legal hassles and so on Pederson went through, nd it is speculated that much of his inventory was secured during the legal battle, nd held somewhere out of sight. What became of those machines is not clear.
While the engine on the Wildcat looks very much like a Hodaka engine (for good reason since they were manufactured by Hodaka), hey were not labeled as Hodaka engines and they don't share parts with engines sold on Hodaka bikes. The entire story of Pederson's Wildcat bike is tangled. Most of the story is out there on the Web. The point here was that while your machine is a Pederson Wildcat, s you say, t is not a Hodaka or an Ace 90, hich were strictly speaking Hodaka/Pabatco trail bikes made in Japan by Hodaka and sold here by Pabatco as "Hodaka" motorcycles. The Pederson Wildcat was not made by Hodaka, t was made by Cycle Trends in Taiwan using engines produced by Hodaka for sale to other companies not offered under the Hodaka name.
