Honda CBR 600 F3 (FW) 1998 - Runner sold for spares or repairs

Firstly. please note that this bike has a blown head gasket. and so will need to be collected on a trailer. although it does run.   It also comes with a spare engine as described below.

I have owned this bike for nearly 14 years. and covered 123. 00 miles on it (on top of the 8. 00 miles it had already done).

The Bad Bits.

As you would expect for this mileage. and the fact that it's been my 'winter' bike for many of those 14 winters. it isn't a tidy bike.   Most of the fairing panels are sound. but have scuffs and scratches.   The lugs on the back of the 'tail unit' have broken. and so the rear side panels are a little loose.   The seat has a split in the middle (about an inch long) covered in tape. and most of the metal parts are corroded but sound.

The head gasket appears to have failed.   The coolant has an oily emulsion in it. and I pulled over on the motorway when I saw the temperature gauge up in the red.   I don't have the time at the moment to fix it. have put my summer bike back on the road. and so this one is up for sale.

The instrument illumination only lights half of the speedo. and many of the 'idiot lights' don't work.

The Good Bits

The  tyres are good - Bridgestone BT021 with good tread. and the chain has life left in it.   Brake disks and pads are OK.   The fuel pump is from an early (pre-fuel injection) F4 model. which is more robust than the standard F3 one.   The radiator was fitted last year.

It has a Scottolier with the high-capacity tank which mounts behind the number plate. and heated Oxford grips.   Stainless exhaust headers.

It passed an MOT in November with no advisories.

Has a Yoshimura silencer. and also comes with an original silencer in excellent condition.

The Spare Engine

At 44. 00 miles. the oil filter seal failed. dumping much of the oil on the road.   With a new filter and fresh oil. the engine still pulled well. but rattled a bit. so when I had the chance to buy a 17. 00 mile engine I did. and swapped them over at 48. 00 miles.   The 48. 00 mile engine is also included in the auction. so you have two options - change the head gasket on this one. or swap the original back in.

So. to sum up. it is a scruffy bike. needs a head gasket or engine swap. and will need to be trailered away.   You are welcome to come and view before bidding. please don't bid if you are expecting a pretty bike!  But if you're handy with the spanners. and want a cheap fast bike. or just a winter project. this could be for you.

To answer the questions received (sorry - should have said this above).

I don't have a 'buy it now' price. and won't end the auction early.

The bike is in Reigate. less than 10 minutes from J8 of the M25.

I have loads of paperwork including the owner's manual and service book.   The service book has dealer stamps up to 16K. and I have serviced it myself since (I'm a chartered engineer).   Oil & filter at 4k intervals (twice as often as required). air filter at 12K. and other items as per the service schedule.   I'll also throw in the Haynes manual so you can keep up the good work!
