HONDA BROS 400 - Selling for spares or repairVery reluctant sale. Selling as moving house to somewhere with no garage. and don't have time to fix this. Was used regularly to commute to work. until the last time I rode it home when plumes of smoke started pouring out the exhaust and the engine became very juddery. I also noticed there was oil around on the front cylinder exhaust manifold. Breakdown recovery guy said he thought it was either the valve seals or the piston rings. but that due to the amount of smoke. it was likely to be a piston ring problem. That was a few months ago and I haven't ridden it since (except for moving it to take these pictures). I started it up today and let it idle for about 10 minutes. It seemed ok-ish at first. although the exhaust was a little spluttery. but after about 5 minutes smoke started coming out the exhaust again. It seemed more grey than blue this time. so I wondered if I'd imagined it being blue before and if it's one of the head gaskets. There doesn't seem to be any milky residue in the oil though. Basically. there's something wrong with it! Passed last MOT with no advisoriesTax runs out 30th April 2015Mileage showing on clocks is 71729km. which is around 44570 miles. In the past couple of years. it's had the following:Carbs stripped down and cleanedFuel tank has been treated with POR-15Seat has been recoveredNew clutch in Feb 2012. at around 40. 00 milesBrake fluid recently replacedNew chain and sprockets in Feb 2012. at around 40. 00 milesCoolant recently replaced (before smoke problem)Tyres have plenty of wear leftBike is 26 years old and is not in perfect condition cosmetically. However. it's not bad for its age really. in my opinion (but then opinions might vary!). I've tried to show the main bad points in the photos. These include:Scuffed exhaust (see pic)Scuff to plastic above rear light (see pic)Hole in exhaust. which has been repaired with exhaust repair putty (see pic)Some of the tabs on the plastic side panel part have broken off. The front 2 tabs are fine though and the panels seem to stay in placeCrack in front mudguard (see pic)Paint is coming off wheelsI've really enjoyed owning this for the past 4 years. and will be very sorry to see her go!Cash on collection. HAPPY BIDDING!
On 28-Sep-14 at 18:32:04 BST. seller added the following information:Just wanted to add a few things:- Bike is a grey import. made in Japan in 1988. but first registered in the UK in 1997 (just in case that was confusing anyone!) Clocks are in kilometres. but the previous owner stuck some stickers on to show (roughly) the miles per hour- I've just noticed there's a crack in the left hand side of the plastic side panel. on the bottom edge. maybe an inch or 2 long . Not sure if this shows up clearly in any of the pictures. - Also just want to emphasise that although this is running. it's running very badly! I meant to mention that after the breakdown guy left. I rode it home about 7 miles. slowly. and with the engine juddering and nothing like the normal power. with smoke coming out the back and with a lot of people staring! I wouldn't really like to say whether or not this could be ridden home safely. (Personally. I probably wouldn't advise it. )
On 28-Sep-14 at 18:47:17 BST. seller added the following information:Sorry - screwing this up! Also. just want to add that the fuel pump isn't an original Bros fuel pump. I got it secondhand from Ebay. and it was advertised as a 1989 SUZUKI GSXR400 pump. as the original Bros one was rusty at the inlet and outlet end. Mirrors aren't Bros originals either. Right. I'll try to stop adding stuff to this listing now.
