An AMAZING example of a complete frame off restoration of an all original 1977 GL1000. From the professional powder coated frame to the over 40 hours spend on completely rebuilding the carbs with Randakk's complete carb kit this bike has been polished. torqued and tuned to all original OEM specs.   A MUST SEE!!!

This is truly one of my most prized restoration efforts thus far.   I bought this bike from the son of the original owner.   It has been sitting in his Dad’s work shop with the carbs pulled for over 30 years.   When I first saw it I knew I had to bring it back to life in all its glory and keep it unmolested and put it back to the original form just like it rolled off the showroom floor.   I first stripped all of the old Vetter bags. fairings and extra parts then disassembled it down to the individual frame parts.    I took the Main frame. Swing arm. center stand. kick stand and battery box to Georgia Powder Coatings and had them sandblasted. dipped in rust retarding chemicals and powder coated with gloss frame black retaining the original OEM Manufacturer’s plate with VIN.

I started with the engine block removing the cylinder heads and replacing all valves. valve springs. valve seals with OEM Honda parts.   I polished the piston heads. replaced the OEM water pump with the new improved Honda OEM water pump. replace the neutral switch and reassemble all components with all new seals. O-rings and Gaskets. Every bolt was polished. lock tight or molybdenum grease applied where specs required and all tighten to specific OEM torque valves.  Compression tested out at 140 PSI +/- 5 lbs. on all cylinders.   Tappets were set to exact OEM standards.

Next I decide to upgrade the ignition. coils and points to a full electronic Dyna-S system including coils. spark plug wires and NGK model #XD05FP boots.   The timing belts are brand new and the timing is spot on with the electronic ignition within +/- . 053 degrees.

The next MAJOR TASK was going through the carbs FULLY and COMPLETELY disassembling and rebuiling to the exact HONDA OEM specification using Randakk’s complete carburetor overhaul kit.   I PUT OVER 40 HOURS INTO THE CARBS.   If you know anything about Randall Washington’s knowledge and products for the older GL’s then I need not say anything further.   If you do not I suggest you google Randakk’s and will find no one more knowledgeable and offering more upgraded and improved hard to find parts for these bikes.

I could go on and on with meticulous details about all that has gone into this bike but let me just start listing other upgrades. improvements and restoration completions.

EVERY PIECE OF CHROME FROM THE CARB CAPS. VALVE COVERS. REAR DRIVE HUB. FENDERS. CRASH BARS. MIRRORS. EXHAUST PLATES. GRAB BARS. HEADLIGHT COVER AND ANY OTHER CHROME YOU CAN SEE HAS BEEN POLISHED POLISHED AND POLISHED AGAIN!!

·         Randakk’s New Front brake master cylinder setup

·         Randakk’s upgraded steel brake lines

·         Complete rebuilt front and rear brake calipers including NEW Stainless Steel Pistons. seals. pads and paint.

·         New Dunlop D404 tires front and back perfectly balanced.

·         New battery with battery tender pigtail

·         Reconditioned seat

·         Professional painted matched OEM color scheme to all original painted parts.

·         Gas tank COMPLETED cleaned and coated for a perfectly rust free inside

·         All light bulbs in every gauge replaced with new OEM bulbs

·         New battery. strap. fuses. ignition coil. rectifier. completely unaltered wiring harness.

·         All switches. lights. buttons. and operator functions work flawlessly.

·         New mirrors levers. gas fuel sender. swing arm bearings. seals. everything has been replaced or reconditioned.

 

I am just getting tired of typing and will undoubtable miss more that was done to this bike than what I can list out here.

 

Again. every single bolt on the bike was touched. polished. torqued to exact OEM specs.   There is not a seal. O-ring. gasket. fluid. pad. wire. fuse or anything else that was not inspected and replaced.   This is an amazing bike.   It cranks right up on idle. idles smoothly at just under 1000 rpms. runs strong down the road. looks so beautiful and I can’t begin to tell you how sweet it looks in person.

 

Whenever I pull into a motorcycle shop. dealer. and local biker hangout or even in the grocery store parking lot when someone knows anything about these bikes that are amazed ant this one and how incredible it looks and sounds.   It is a vintage GL1000 Goldwing connoisseur’s dream.

 

This bike is over 38 years old and with all the attention to detail and by not molesting the original character of the bike it is still 38 years old and is not perfect.   Chrome may have slight blemishes. wheels may have slight blemishes. and normal wear on parts such as foot pegs. levers. seat. fenders. forks. engine components. etc.
