Nice looking and very presentable example that I would take to shows and be proud to ride daily. This bike was purchased new by the previous owner in 1981 at a small Honda shop in Oregon so it's no suprise this bike sat for 2 years before being sold new. The owner rode it sparingly around his hometown and in 1998 decided he could no longer ride and stored it in his shed/garage until it was purchased this year. The garage was not climate controlled and the PNW coastal weather is not nice to bikes so the exhaust rusted (see pics) but it still shines nice. You'll find this bike needs attention in the nooks and crannies but any loving owner will enjoy that.
We cleaned the gunk out of the carbs and fired her up for the first time in 16 years. It runs and rides but a professional carb synchronizing needs to be done and you might as well flush/bleed the brake lines while you're there too. It stops fine but the brake feel is not firm like new DOT 4 brake fluid would provide. Overall the condition is nice with original paint and no customization whatsoever. The miles are 8. 54 and the seat and peg wear and brake wear and sprocket wear support those miles. The speedometer and other gauge faces 'match' so the speedo has not been changed. You can tell when a speedometer has been changed by looking at the speedometer condition compared to the other gauges and overall condition of the bike.
We loosened the airbox to read the number and the number is CB1E-2005157 so this is the original engine. Gas tank inside is as expected – clean and shiny with some normal surface rust in spots. It looks like this bike tipped over from stand still at some point in the past because there are some scratches on the mufflers and the rear turn signal mount area is depressed in and the side of the rear turn signal is dinged (email me for pics). The exhaust has no road scrapes or rash (there are a couple garage dings but it has some rust holes anyway). Curiously there are 2 broken fins on the left side cylinder and I never even noticed them until I got it home. How they got there is a mystery as there is no damage anywhere. Overall. you'll be very pleased when you win this bike. It comes with the original owners handbook and pouch. I have the clean and clear title in hand. Enjoy it for many years to come. If you have watched the values of the first year CBX skyrocket. this is a buying decision you won't regret.
