Description

For sale is my 1982 Honda VF750 SC (or Sabre as they were known in the US). I bought this bike as a "barn find" back in 2008 (see last picture!) with the intention of doing a quick "tart up" to use her as a winter hack. but due to various circumstances she sat in my driveway for another 3 years until I stripped her down. This very quickly changed from a winter hack to a very in depth restoration. although not a "nut & bolt" restoration there has been much work done & many new parts added to get her to the condition she is in today. She was taxed at the beginning of September & has just passed the MOT with no advisories. (not bad for a 32 year old bike). Although the odometer says 8000 miles I doubt very much this is correct & I couldn't say what the exact mileage is? Well here goes. these are the good bits:

Frame powdercoated                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      Forks checked for straightness & re-chromed + new seals

Every suspension bush & bearing replaced

Every engine mount bush replaced

New headstock bearings & seals

New (NOS) anti-dive unit

New front discs + front brake callipers re-built & refurbished (although paint is not great)

New front brake master cylinder & braided front brake hoses

Clutch slave & master cylinders serviced & re-built with new seal kits to both + new braided hose & metal pipe.

Seat re-upholstered & re-covered

Complete ignition system rebuild including new (NOS) pulse generators. new spark units (from US). new rectifier. new coils & new plug leads & plugs

Heads removed & de-coked & valves re-ground & clearances re-set + new valve stem oil seals + new head gaskets

Carbs stripped. ultrasonically cleaned. vapour blasted & re-built with new kits.

Front & Rear wheels both replaced with brand new (NOS) ones + new wheel bearings

New (NOS) front exhaust down-pipes & collector box & rear pipes & heat shield + new silencers

Both front & rear tyres almost new having only covered about 200 miles

There have been many other smaller parts replaced. far to many to list including dash unit. switch gear. horns & various other electric parts etc

NOT SO GOOD PARTS

Small scratch in tank (see picture)

Very slight weep from one of the fork seals

Paint cracked on side panels where they push into rubber grommets (see pictures)

Very (very) small water leak (not sure where from)

For some reason. if left standing for any length of time you need to pump the clutch lever as it seems to lose clutch pressure (although there are no leaks as everything. including the clutch plates & discs have been replaced)

Also sometimes there is a slight "over-run" on the throttle when you back it off although this does tend to disappear after being ridden for a while. (Although the carbs were done as per above. it was some time ago & it hasn't covered many miles since so they may benefit from another clean & re-balancing perhaps?)

The reason for selling this bike is that I have spent more time re-building her than riding her & am looking to upgrade to a Harley & have no room to store 2 bikes & so sadly she has to go. Although around 50% or more of this bike is brand new. please bear in mind that she is still basically a 32 year old bike & has all the niggles that go along with a bike of that age. I'm sure someone with good mechanical knowledge (or a good mechanic!) can sort out the little problems with the carb. clutch & water leak.  I just have no more time (& sadly. no longer a workshop) to finish these last couple of bits.  I also have a complete spare engine & about 4 other boxes containing various second-hand parts that will come with the bike! I would advise viewing. Test rides only with proof of insurance & the "Buy It Now" asking price in cash in my hand beforehand. Please remember you are bidding to buy. not to come & haggle! No tyre kickers please. Payment to be cash on collection. Buyer to collect.
