This is a very tidy CX500. The bike that has has some mild customisation to give it that Cafe Racer look. The new clocks show 23581 but the original clocks showed 66414. The Good Bits. 1. The original CX clocks and nacelle have been removed and replaced with some nice items from a GL500. This has the advantage of having the temp gauge incorporated into the rev counter which is nice and neat. 2. The wiring loom has been completely redone and adapted very neatly for the new clocks and headlamp. 3. There is a brand new chrome headlamp which has all the necessary sidelights etc needed for MOT. 4. As far as possible I have used the original high quality Honda lights electrics etc with the exception of the twin rear lamp. 5. The carbs have been cleaned to within an inch of their life including getting out that jet that Honda says cannot be removed but all forums say you need to if you are doing a proper job. 6. There are two new modern ignition coils. 7. The front brake pistons and seals have all been replaced. 8. The swinging arm. that rots out on most british based bikes. has been replaced with one from a low mileage bike from the states and so is in excellent condition and has been waxoyled to keep it that way. 9. Engine oil. filter and transmission oils have been done and shaft greased with the high percentage moly grease. as recommended by Honda. 10. The bars have been replaced with new ace bars and twist grips are new. 11. Cables have been replaced where necessary. 12. It has new down tubes. 13. The seat is a home made job but is based on the original base so it clips on and off as per the original item. 14. It had a new battery in May. 15. It has a reasonable length MOT. 16. The engine runs with no smoke. 17. It is currently on SORN. 18 New rear shocks. 19 New master cylinder. reservoir and lever for front brakes. The Bad Bits1. Well the main news here is that one of the engine mountings had broken when I got the bike. This happens when the bike falls on its side and the after market engine mounting bars. designed to protect the engine. actually help to break off the mounting. It's a weak point on the CX and is well documented in forums. However. the good news is that the threaded hole that the stud goes into is deeper and threaded deeper than the original stud. If you look at the later pictures you can see that I have used a stud with a longer thread than original ( I knew I kept that stud for some reason back in the 80s). This has the same amount of thread into the remaining engine hole as the original had in to the original hole. I pointed this all out to the MOT station and they were happy with it. I hope you can see all this in the pictures. In the end it's not too obvious on the bike. 2. The pipes are the original type items. The good news is that means all the jetting is all set as per the original. The bad news is that although they look shiny in the pictures the chrome is not good. They are sound though with little rust. 3. The tyres passed the MOT but while the treads are good they are getting a bit old and hard. I would probably replace these if I was doing serious mileage. 4. The paint job is functional but it's not a professional job. Note that it is cash on collection only. no delivery is available.
