Lovely Honda VFR 750F-G Sports Tourer. Excellent condition, superb V4 engine.

1987 Honda VFR 750F-G

Lovingly cared for modern classic in exceptionally good condition. with some sensible upgrades.

I only recently bought this bike from the previous owner of eight years. after a long break from two wheels. I was looking for a well looked-after example that I could take to shows and perhaps lightly restore.  It has been used as a second bike purely for pleasure. including regular trips abroad.

Having been out for several long rides I cannot fault the machine. but unfortunately my confidence on a bike is not what it once was. so I shall be looking for something a little more sedate…

Recent maintenance (last twelve months) as follows:

New front discs

New chain and sprockets

New Avon tyres

New battery

New fork seals and stanchions

Oil service/valve clearance check

Additional long term maintenance:

Swingarm stripped and greased; bearings replaced

Wheel bearings replaced

Headstock bearings replaced

Rear shock replaced with Hagon unit

Front springs replaced with Hagon springs

Replacement Marving exhaust

Sump plug professionally Helicoiled. sump studs replaced

New clutch fitted (approx. 5000miles ago)

Regulator/rectifier replaced with upgraded unit

Coolant hoses replaced with Samco silicon hoses

Extras fitted include:

Dual outlet Scottoiler (greatly extends life of chain/sprockets. and reduces frequency of chain adjustment)

Oxford heated grips (adjustable)

Rentec rack

Manual fan override switch

Stainless steel braided brake hoses

With the correct maintenance these gear driven cam VFR’s are truly bullet-proof. with many examples now exceeding 150k and still going strong – so long as the rest of the chassis and drivetrain are taken care of – which this one certainly has been. The current mileage is 91350 miles; the whole bike feels reassuringly fresh.

The engine fires up on the button. without any smoke. and idles smoothly. Power delivery is sublime. and the bike is as easy to ride in town traffic as it is on the open road – just smooth. effortless power that keeps on building as the revs rise. The clutch is light and perfect; brakes are excellent – smooth. strong and progressive. The only single thing I can fault is the annoying clicking/rattle that comes from the now-redundant anti-dive system in the front forks – a common issue by all accounts which I understand is easily remedied.

Make no mistake. you could get on this bike tomorrow and ride anywhere. any distance – it is ready to go and requires nothing but fuel and road tax.  MOT June 2015. no advisories.

To my eyes it is also a really good looking bike…
