I bought this 1979 Honda CBX new from Cycles of Boulder in Boulder. Colorado on May 19th. 1982. There were only a few of these bikes left in the Honda warehouse in California by this time and I was lucky enough to get one of them. I bought the bike with the intention of preserving it as a piece of history. a collectors item. since I thought they were so unique and beautiful. Therefore. I kept part of the original shipping carton and rode the bike only enough to keep the engine seals. bearings. cylinder walls. and so on from going bad from just sitting. Except for the brief times when it was being driven. it has been covered in the garage and therefore there is NO sun damage and NO pitting of any kind. It has never been in the rain. or even washed. just dusted off. The CBX has never been dropped or scratched and has always been ridden very gently with the "nubs" still showing on the tires. The bike is completely original with the obvious exception of gas. oil. and battery and I have always used Honda oil and filters and OEM Yuasa replacement batteries. There is no tank or exhaust pipe rust. no messed up screw heads or the like. and absolutely no modifications. I had planned on keeping the CBX till I died. but circumstances have changed and I have reluctantly decided to sell it. If you feel as I do that restored bikes are just not the same as original ones. then you will be hard pressed to find a nicer example than this. I kept all the original paperwork such as the owner's manual. warranty papers and owner's card and with only 1482 gentle miles. the CBX looks the same as it did the day it came out of the box. About 4 years ago. I started getting nervous that something could happen to the Honda when I took it out for a ride. especially since I am now in my 60's. so I decided to store it. I put marvel mystery oil in the cylinders. changed the oil. and filled the tank with aviation fuel since it has a much longer storage life than pump gas. The bike ran fine when I parked it but if you are going to ride it. you may have to clean out the carbs in case they got gummy from sitting. As is common with all CBX's. the rear brake caliper started sticking so you should put a kit in it and the alternator makes the occasional whirring noise it has made since the bike was new. I have since moved to Arizona but the Honda is located at my brother's house in Longmont. Colorado. (zip 80503) which is about 30 miles north of Denver and just northeast of Boulder. We will do anything we can in helping the new owner get the bike shipped. It should be noted that although I do not have the CBX advertised anywhere else (in fact this is the first time it has ever been offered for sale) I do reserve the right to end the auction early in case bidding seems sluggish so please don't wait until the last minute to bid to avoid the disappointment of possibly finding the auction closed. Finally. although I have done my best to accurately describe the cycle. it is of course. sold as is with no warranty. It is very hard for me to sell the CBX after all these years and I sincerely hope that the new owner is going to put it in a private collection or a museum and not just use it as a driver or. God forbid. start to modify it after all the pains I took to preserve it. This bike is about as close to going back in time and buying a new CBX as you can get and it deserves the very best home possible. Please feel free to ask me any questions you may have. I will do my best to answer them honestly. I can be reached either by email or phone at 928-468-7060. afternoons and evenings best. Thanks for looking!
