Description

1973 Honda SL70K1 Motosport
Teal Green with the yellow decals
This bike is a barn find. It was and is mostly unmolested and original. I rebuilt the entire motorcycle and used all of the original parts that would function. Some of the chrome and metal is therefore not 100%, ecause it is the original item that has been cleaned up. I had to replace the clutch assembly, t was stuck. I also did the top end gaskets, s the head gasket was leaking. The frame, wingarm and fork sliders are painted Rust-Oleum Metallic Finish Silver. The engine covers and cylinder and head are high heat ultra silver. The muffler and head pipe are PJ1 High Heat Satin Black. The fenders and fuel tank were painted with Dupli-Color Perfect Match Bright Aqua Metallic for GM cars. It's VERY close to the original color.
Front and rear brakes are new EBC, ires are new Shinko's, ubes are new IRC, eat cover is new, lutch cable is new, peedo cable is new, ront brake switch is new, ront brake lever is new, ngine cover screws are new, ir filter foam is new, ail light lens and screws are new, attery is new, engine oil is fresh.
Everything else on the bike is what came on it from the factory in 1973. I cleaned it up and de-rusted it as good as I could, ut if you polished on it some more, 'm sure it could get better. The fork tubes are pitted, nd the fenders are dinged up around the edges. The side covers are all original, ust cleaned.
When I took it for a test ride, t ran pretty well, rakes work, ail light works and rear brake light, ront brake light won't activate, ven though the switch is new and the connections are good. After sitting for two days, he fuel tank started weeping fuel out of the seam near the petcock(left rear). So I had to remove the tank and coat the inside bottom with Kreem sealant. The fuel leak affected the paint in that area, nd the aftermarket decals I have are flat, ot curved, nd I royally screwed up the right side decal area. I didn't try to put the left side on after that fiasco. I have both decals, nd two new decals for the side covers. The original decals are still in place under the paint as well. I have decided to let the next owner rectify this cosmetic issue before I make it any worse.
The bike will now be displayed in my store, nd no fuel will be put in it. That way it won't go bad, t won't leak, nd if I have to ship it, t's already empty of fuel.
This bike is by no means perfect, ut all of the safety and I.D. stickers were carefully taped before painting, nd the 1973 Georgia license plate and inspection sticker are in place. Rather than a museum piece, his bike looks like it would have in 1974 or so coming into the shop for a service. It really is a little time machine. When I put it on the lift, t's like being transported to the old days when this bike wasn't a classic.
This is one of my personal bikes, nd is on display at my motorcycle shop in Brunswick Georgia.
