1961 Honda CB92. R kitted in JapanFrame number CB92-1103055Engine number CB92E-1103085
This is a Japanese market R kitted CB92 that was brought to the USA in the late 1980s. It was restored for the Guy Webster Museum and has been on display there for the last several years. It has not been run or ridden in several years. The fuel was drained and the battery was removed.Prior to being put ondisplay the bike ran perfectly. The motor was turned over regularly and oil was changed yearly even though the bike was not started. This bike can bebrought back into service if riding it is desired.
The black color... USA market bikeshad either a blue or a red frame with silver tank, ide covers etc. Thiswas not a USA market bike. It is a Japan market bike.Ithad and still hasthe correct for Japanblack frame. The Honda Benly from 1954 through 1958 were all black with a few exceptions such as the paleblue seen on a handful of 1954 Honda Benly J and the darkred seen on a few later models. One of the photosshows this CB92 along side another correct black Honda Benly from 1955.
The fuel tank is Aluminum and has the screw infuel cap with safety wire drill holeas is correct for a 1961 model. The front fender is the correctaluminum also. One side cover is aluminum and the other is steel so it seems one side cover was replaced at some point before the bike came to the USA. This bike has the correct (for 1961)small taillight lens. Also has the correct small ball end brake and clutch levers. The tires are the original Yokohama tires that came on the bike when new in 1961. They are excellent with no cracking and very little wear.
There is no horn on this bike as is the case with many R kitted CB92s in Japan.
The R kit parts are perfect. The racing seat is beautiful and the foam inside still firm but not rigid or crumbling as so often is the case. The bike came from Japan with an NOS spare set of CB92R megaphones. These are on the bike now and they are the correct (for 1961) length. The magnesium brake backing plates are in exceptionally nicecondition. The upper shock mount frame cover plates which are so often in poor shape or missing are in perfect condition on this bike.
Issues you will need to address if you plan to ride this bike. The front brake works but is not as powerful as it could be. I would clean any glazing or contamination off the brake shoes. The clutch plates are sticky. I have not seen a CB92 with clutch plates that were not sticky after a long period out of use. If you plan to ride regularly then they will be fine but if the bike sits for long periods then you may want to replace the clutch friction plates and possibly consider using a synthetic oil.Other than that the bike is simplygorgeous and mechanically excellent.
This CB92 has only been out of the museum one time in the last 12 years and that was for the Quail Motorcycle Gathering in 2010. It won first place at this show.Guy Webster has decided it is time to reduce the size of the museum to a more manageable number. This CB92 and other bikes are now available. Please look at all the photos and call or use the ebay message system to ask any questions you may have.
This bike is offered with a bill of sale only. There is no title for this bike currently.I can get a California title if desired. The process take about 2 to 3 months here in California. It is time consuming and I will charge for the time spend going through this process.
The odometer(that currently reads 2 miles) is the odometerthat was in the bikewhen brought from Japan to the USA. Ido not believe that the bike really had only 2 miles on it. It was in excellent condition when brought from Japan but it did appear to have been ridden more than 2 miles. My guess is that the odometer was replaced with a tachometer for some period and then when the bike was no longer being ridden the original odometer was put back in. That is just a guess however.
I will assist with shipping anywhere in the USA. All shipping costs are the responsibility of the buyer. This bike is listed locally so the auction could endat any timeifit has not reached reserve. I will not end the auction early if it does reach its reserve.
