You are bidding on an Exceptional Dual Sport Motorcycle here. It performs great on the highway, orest Service roads and open trails. This has been Honda's main, ll-around, o-to, treet legal Dual Sport motorcycle for years. They designed it right to begin with and really have done little to change it.
According to Wikipedia:
The XR650L is a dual-sport motorcycle manufactured by Honda, art of the Honda XR series. It was released in 1992 as a 1993 model. It combines the RFVC engine from the proven NX650 Dominator dual sport with the lighter, ff-road capable XR600R chassis, hich is not road legal in the US. It has been produced virtually unchanged since 1993.
The engine is an air-cooled 644cc (39.3cuin) SOHC, ry-sump, ingle-cylinder, our-stroke. With an electric starter, eadlight, aillight, urn signals, irrors, S EPA and California Air Resources Board (CARB) compliant exhaust system, nd a 2.8-US-gallon (11-litre; 2.3-imperial-gallon) fuel tank, he 650L has a 349lb (158kg) wet weight.[1] The seat height is 37 inches (940mm).
Hey, here are other nice (and not-so-nice) XR650L motorcycles here on eBay and, 'm sure, ocally on Craigslist. Some are newer, ome are older. Most are box stock, ome are thrashed. Some are XR650R made street legal (you hope). Some are "Frankensteined" into Motard racers. Cool. We all have a right to be different. That's what is so great about the XR650L. It's a perfect, olid, eliable platform - in which to personalize it for your demands. But, ince the XR650L model itself has been virtually unchanged by Honda for 23 years - it's age is basically irrelevant.
What IS relevant is it's mileage, ondition, ow it's be cared for and by whom and what kind of upgrades you are getting for the money. And are those upgrades necessary for your needs? or do you want the ability to restore some, r all, f the bike to it's original condition?
This bike has only been owned and driven by two adult, xpert motorcycle riders. I bought this bike from the original owner ten years ago. He was a mid-30's family man - with another child on the way. "Time to get rid of some toys," he said. But he knew his way around motorcycles. He made a number of upgrades to the bike before I bought it. All things I would have done myself.
Here's the list of the previous owner's modifications:
- 14 tooth counter shaft sprocket
- Moose Skid plate
- New DID 520ERV2 X-ring chain
- Pro-Taper CR-mid bend fat handle bar with TAG adapters
- Summers Racing front fork brace
- Summers Racing "mud skin" seal savers
- Galfer braided steel brake lines
- Galfer green brake pads
- Removed the air box snorkel
- Removed the PAIR valve and installed a Baja Designs "smog block-off kit"
- Installed a Dynojet carburetor "re-calibration kit" (drilled slide, eplaced the slide spring, djustable needle)
- Re-jetted the carb with 160/55 jets
- Prepped and painted the side covers Black. Looks a WHOLE lot better than the stock white covers.
All in all, ajor improvements to the stopping power, erformance, andling and appearance over a stock XR650L.
OK, o I bought it, ode it and continued the tradition of generally upgrading the bike. I actually had dreams of trailering it down to San Diego and riding the full length and back of the Baja Peninsula. I wanted a reliable, fficient, ependable - and most important, OMFORTABLE ride. Especially if I was going to spend a lot of hot hours in the seat.
So here's what I did to the bike:
- XR's Only Oil Temperature Gauge Dipstick - best investment for long distance riding!
- XR's Only Frame AND Engine Magnetic Oil Drain Plugs
- XR's Only Case/Cover Guard
- XR's Only Shark fin
- XR's Only Lowering Link - lowered center of gravity; easier access
- XR's Only Billet Vented Gas Cap
- Rear Utility and Side luggage racks - a place to attach the saddle bags and gear; keeps it off of the exhaust
- K&N Air Filter
- K&N Oil Filter
- Custom-designed Corbin seat - the stock seat is like riding on a 2x4. This one is set up for long distance comfort.
- New wide-angle mirrors
- New Pirelli MT90 A/T tires 90/90 x 21" front & 120/80 x 18" rear
- New tubes for the tires
- New Battery
- 4.7 gallon Clarke gas tank - almost doubles the stock tank capacity
- FMF Power Bomb Exhaust Header
- FMF Q2 Muffler System
- Stainless steel Clock and Thermometer - because it's nice to know the time and temperature when you are out riding
- New NGK Iridium Spark Plug
- Deep socket Spark Plug Wrench
The bike has never been down or fallen over. And it has never seen the rain. It has always been stored, nder cover, n a garage or heated shop.
Of course, he bike comes with the original stock, ull-supplied Tool Kit and Owner's Manual.

And I have all the Receipts and Records for Parts and Service Work included.
I also have ALL of the Original Parts that I have removed / replaced on the bike (complete original exhaust system, as tank, tock seat, tc.).
I also will throw in a Honda Factory Set-up and Assembly Manual that was supplied to the Dealers, nstruction them on how to assemble and set-up the bike upon delivery.
And, f that isn't enough, will throw in a Honda Factory Service Manual.
And, f it makes it to the modest Reserve Price, will also throw in a complete set of soft-sided Nelson-Riggs Saddle Bags, ear Seat Bag and Tank Bag. The Seat bag works great as a "carry-on' bag on an airplane.
