Description

Read description fully before bidding

I am selling my 1994 CB500. It currently has a charging issue and I have to charge the battery after every day that I ride it or I will likely end up having to push start it the next day. Despite this. the bike runs and rides absolutely fine. I have tried a new battery and regulator but the voltage across the battery always reads between 12-13 volts when running with the light on and 13-14 volts with the light off. It should be running at around 14. 7 volts according to research I have done. I feel I do not want to spend any more time and effort trying to fix this problem so am selling the bike this way. I hope somebody with some more knowledge than me on motorcycle electrics may be able to fix it. I will make sure the battery is charged for the winning bidder so they can ride it away.

Good points:

?·         As mentioned. despite charging issue the engine runs fine (see video below)

?·         Will always start from cold easy. even in the middle of the winter with no problems at all (assuming battery is charged).

?·         Just had new rear brake shoes fitted.

?·         Front brake pads arse about 500 miles old.

?·         New rear tyre. barely used.

?·         Front tyre has plenty of life left in it.

?·         Shocks were replaced about 2000 miles ago.

?·         New throttle pull and return cables.

?·         X-Ring chain and sprockets. Looks like they have lots of life left in them. Sprockets are not hooked and chain spins freely.

?·         I have fitted a 1997 model Brembo front brake calliper. This is so much better than the original one on the 1994 model.

?·         It has a VTR 1000 Firestorm front brake master cylinder and leaver (I have since lost the original). The original master cylinder on this model is very ?ˆ?spongey?ˆ? so I changed it because I had the firestorm master cylinder and leaver in my spares box from my previous bike. This combined with the Brembo calliper makes the bike stop really well considering it only has 1 small disk. The standard brake setup was absolutely useless!

?·         No immediate need for oil change. I did this about 2000 miles ago.

?·         Has a Motad stainless exhaust system. CB500 standard exhausts are known for rusting to the point they need to be replaced. This one won?ˆ™t. This is a bit louder than standard. but nothing over the top (See video).

Bad points:

?·         Charging issue as already described.

?·         The bike was crashed by the previous owner. The right side has cosmetic damage to the fairing. exhaust. engine casing and top of the headlight casing (See pictures). I replaced the original bent bars with motocross bars (cut a few inches off the ends). This was purely because the Honda ones were expensive and I thought these looked better anyway. There is nothing to stop you swapping them back if you wanted to purchase a set of Honda bars. None of the switch gear needed to be altered to fit.

?·         2 tiny holes in the rear tail unit from where the old topbox mounting kit was (see pictures).

?·         Rear left indicator mounting has broken. The indicator wants to flop down. but I have had it held in place by the same zip ties for years (see picture)

?·         The bike has done a lot of miles and the bodywork is generally a bit tatty.

?·         I assume by the colour of the coolant that rad weld has been in the radiator at some point. I have never had any cooling issues in the years I have had the bike though.

Despite what I have stated above it has gone through its last MOT without any advisories. The current MOT is valid until 9th May 2015.

I have been honest about all the bad points. hence the low starting bid. As mentioned above it does have good points also and I think it would make a good run around for somebody if they could get the battery to hold charge. I would definitely have kept it if I could fix the charging issue. but have bought another bike now so I just don?ˆ™t want to spend any more effort trying to fix this one. As stated. it will always start even on a very cold morning with no issues if it has charge. so the engine is good. See video below to show that the bike does start and run fine when the battery is charged:

I removed the left hand mirror because I preferred to just have the one in-case I get caught in traffic so I can filter through easier. I have the fittings for the mirror but cannot find where I put the mirror itself. If I can find it I will give it to the winning bidder. but I am listing the bike as having just one mirror in case I cannot find it. It has been through many MOTs with just 1 mirror. so that is not an issue.

Happy to answer any questions.

Cash on collection would be my preferred method of payment. Weekends and evenings would be best to pick up the bike.

Thanks. itchie
