Right. I brought this last week on impulse - saw it. wanted it. hit the buy now button! Now it is here common sense has taken over - it is very big. and I am only little! Better be sensible and stick to bikes that are a bit closer to the ground. It is a lovely bike - mechanically I can not fault it. Engine is whisper quiet. sounds like it has just left the factory. MoT ran out a few days ago. but it will sail through its test. Below is the original advert - thought I would just copy and paste it as it is entirely accurate. Only thing I would add is this is the model with Hondas Combined Braking System. Any questions. just ask. ******************Here we have my 2001 XL1000 Honda Varadero for sale. I purchased this bike about two years ago for commuting and touring. but recently I have got another bike so this one is now up for sale.
Its ferried me two and from my place of work for about 1. 5 years and has done a couple of tours in Europe. Returning from my last trip in the summer I replaced the regulator and the starter motor which cost me $400 (the regulator is a common issue on these bikes).
I have also fitted engine/crash bars on the front as the previous owner had dropped the bike causing some fairing damage. which I didn't want to repeat. I have also fitted new discs and pads to the front and rear (the front discs are slightly newer). It also has a brand new front tyre and the rear still has some good life left. The bike has recently had a new chain and sprocket set just before I went away in the summer. A new battery has also been fitted at the beginning of summer. New exhaust gaskets have also been fitted through the exhaust system. a common and annoying problem (which a dealer will charge hundreds to fix). The original and unreliable contacts fuel pump has been changed for a solid state facet pump (again another common issue with these bikes). The old headlight bulbs have been recently replaced with Osram Night Breakers (the lights on this bike are stronger than anything else I've ever ridden).
The bike also has an adjustable MRA touring screen and full GIVI Monokey luggage rack. I will be throwing in the Honda 46 litre top box for the bike too. She also has heated grips. hand guards and battery charger plug. The engine has also had a full service about 4 months ago.
The only downside points are the slight damage to the right hand fairing. and the fuel warning light no longer works after the contacts on the bottom of the fuel tank and snapped. This is an easy fix if you can just source a new sender unit (or fuel tank - they are pretty cheap). I currently use one of the two trips to monitor my mileage (which is normally about 200-220 a tank).
I'm not looking for crazy money and its an honest workhorse. i'm open to offers but nothing silly. The MOT does run out next month and has no tax; but it will pass with no problem and tax is around ??76. I have reduced the price to account for these.
