For sale. my 2005 CRF450R Supermoto.
Now. this isn't how I wanted to sell my bike. but unfortunately I'm in a position where I am left with very little choice.
I'll get straight to the point. THIS IS A NON RUNNER!! But serious buyers please read on for a real bargain!
I have slightly rewritten my original advert though. as it gives you a good idea of the quality of this bike before it failed on me. And it wouldn't be a huge job for someone with the time/skills to get it back to its former glory! I just don't have the time with work commitments and its a real shame to just leave it sitting in bits :-(
It has been my pride and joy for the last couple of years. an absolute animal on the road and the most fun you can have on 2 wheels that I have ever experienced!
This bike has had thousands of pounds spent on it over the last few years to get it to the spec you see here today. No expense spared to get it to the highest standard. and maintained regardless of cost.
This amazing bike was originally tuned by Steve Clitheroe for the use of the Mike Wright Racing team. The engine internals were treated to some very impressive machining and engineering work to get it to perform it's best. and set up for reliability and rideability.
I have tried to make a comprehensive list of the specs of the bike and work done. but I'm sure that I'll have missed something out.
Chassis:
Goldspeed adjustable triple clamps Easton Fat Bars and Clamps Zeta Handguards New Circuit grips Carbon fibre fork guards. tank cover. swing arm protector and rear caliper guard Circuit front fender Alloy fuel cap GMX oil catch tank GMX fuel catch tank Radiator expansion/catch tank Recently new X-ring chain and Renthal sprockets (15-42 road gearing. never needed to gear it down. pulls like a train!) RFX alloy gear shift lever and rear brake pedal Red silicone hose kit Seat 'bump' One Industries Gripper seat cover Black Radiator Guards/FinsSuspension:
K-Tech tuned. lowered and stiffened front forks for supermoto K-Tech tuned rear shock and spring. larger bladder/chamber Goldspeed ride height adjustable rear lower linkageBrakes:
Brembo 16x18 front master cylinder Goldspeed 4-pot racing front caliper (like Motomaster) Braided hoses front and rear New EBC racing pads. front and rearWheels/Tyres:
17" Black Takasago Excel Rims / Titanium (coloured) Talon hubs (5" rear) . these look ace! Stainless spokesTyres - The bike will come with Maxxis Street Sport tyres fitted. very good condition.
Engine: (the failed bit!!)
This is the original spec that I was running:
Gas flowed/ported head Stage 2 Hot Cam Wiseco 13. 5:1 High compression piston Prox conrod kit Recent Genuine Honda valves. head recut to suit and shims checked new counterbalance shaft Sigma slipper clutch (every bike should have one!!) Full FMF Titanium exhaust with Power Bomb header pipe K&N filter Iridium plug Drilled Airbox Jet kit to suit Manual Cam Chain tensioner All new bearings throughout using Genuine main bearings and quality pattern ones for the smaller bearings. I have bought the new oils and filter. I'll send these with the bike!Unfortunately a few months ago. things didn't go to plan on a perfect sunny summers day! I believed that something had 'let go' inside the engine as it blew it's oil out of the top of the head. Suspicious that the piston had failed. we pulled the engine to investigate. It looks pretty bad. but definitely fixable!! The piston has hit one of the inlet valves. Not very hard. but it's now not a perfect seal so it could do with new inlet valves. Then when we took the piston out. it felt like there was a little bit of resistance around the gudgeon pin. which we think could mean the rod has been slightly misshaped. This has made a mess of the piston as well though. so my plan was to replace it all and get it all running again.
My shopping list was fairly short:
Conrod Piston Gasket kit Inlet valves Water pump shaft (noticed a light scoring in the shaft. would be a good time to replace it while the engine's apart is all!)I realise that this isn't the ideal situation. buying a broken bike. but if you're getting a Supermoto. you're going to have to learn how to fix things at some point!! At least this way you'll know exactly how many hours the major components have had huh?
The engine is in bits. but all the parts are here and it comes with a full service manual which is an accurate step by step guide to fixing it all up! It's a bit like a grown up's Lego set!!!!
I hope someone can see the potential of this bike. it's still taxed until feb '15 and has a full mot til next year (I'll have to check when!). and would be an awesome winter project ready for next year!
I really hope that I have put across the work that has gone into this build. The bike. when repaired needs absolutely nothing to make it competitive on a racetrack. or just a fantastic toy on the road.
I have the V5 here. in my name and the bike still has tax on it until 28/02/15 (??55 for 12months)
It's great fun to ride on the road. easily keeps up with the sportsbikes through the twisty country roads and is seriously confidence inspiring!
I have been changing the oil every 6 hours on the road (or after every track day). oil filter every 3 changes. and the trans oil (separate on these to the engine oil) every 4x engine oil changes. It's so easy to do. the 'high maintenance' aspect of these bikes really isn't anything to be worried about!
It's not in perfect/showroom condition cosmetically. I have taken it for a few track days. and I have had a couple of 'offs' at low speeds. so there are some scuffs on the handguards and crash bobbins (although they did exactly what they were supposed to and saved the frame/brakes and expensive bits!!). It's all part of the fun of these bikes and as they are essentially motocross bikes. they just bounce and carry on without the expensive repair bills. These bikes lean so far over. at some point you'll inevitably take it a little too far and run out of tyre! There are a few scuffs and marks. but nothing essential and mechanically it has been running flawlessly for me until recently. A really top bike!
I've tried to list everything. please feel free to ask me any questions and I'll try and respond as soon as possible (or as soon as I can get connection to ebay). I can also send on/email more detailed pics of the bike. rebuild or internals. just let me know if you need anything.
I'M NOT INTERESTED IN ANY SWAPS/PART EX!!! Thank you. and I'm afraid that test rides are obviously unavailable!!
Viewing is available. ideally weekends. but please give me a couple of days to sort this and make sure I can be here as I'm self employed so work around jobs coming in! We live just north of York. I can bring the bike home at any time as it's only kept around the corner!
I had previously advertised this bike for ??3750. but realise that this is no longer possible due to the work required. I have set a sensible reserve.
I know how much it would cost to build a CRF chassis up to this spec. and the head work is worth serious money so know that it is well worth the money that I'm asking. But please people. stop messaging me asking for parts from the bike. I know some are rare. I know that some are hard to get hold of. but really. I'm not going to sell you the triple clamps. or clutch etc because I need to sell the bike as a whole first!
Cash on collection please.
Many Thanks. /p>
Andy
