1968 HONDA CL450K1 Scrambler CL450 CL 450

1968 Honda CL450K1 in OEM Candytone Red livery.  This is a very nice. original example of the first purpose-built Scrambler using the 444cc. DOHC engine that debuted in the 1965 CB450K0 Black Bomber.  This version of the Honda 450 received the benefits of a 5-speed transmission. greatly improved carburetors and a styling makeover that wowed the critics and made the bike the sales success Honda had hoped for with the previous model.  It features what is. (IMO) the prettiest fuel tank Honda ever produced along with styling cues such as the white piping on the seat that were an homage to the British bikes of the day.  The high-mount. swept-back. left-exit exhaust and factory skid plate hinted at off-road prowess but the sound of the pipes is enough to justify their presence. This bike shows under 8. 00 original miles and is unrestored.  I have corrected a few conditional issues using new and/or new old stock parts to bring the bike back to excellent used condition.  It received a full service. (carbs cleaned. adjusted and balanced; cam chain tensioner adjusted; valves adjusted; ignition points adjusted and ignition timing set; oil filter cleaned out and oil changed; new spark plugs installed. )  Additionally. I replaced the tires and tubes. (3. 25-19 front. 4. 00-18 rear; Dunlop Gold Seal K-70's) and installed a new battery.  The front fork seals were changed and new fluid installed. The bike starts easily with either kick or electric start. idles properly and pulls strong through all five gears.  All electrical systems function properly.  It goes down the road straight and true; all suspension. braking and steering components work as they should.  It has it's complete original toolkit. battery cover and strap.  Frame # is CL450-1008461. Engine # is CL450E-1008498.  I have a clean. clear Title. There are a few cosmetic issues as would be expected of an unrestored but well-loved bike of this vintage.  Small nicks and chips in the original finish. the foam in the seat beginning to collapse. some battery acid damage to the front of the rear fender. some failure of the clear-coat applied to polished engine and suspension surfaces; all common to bikes that have been ridden and seen years and miles of enjoyable use.  Obviously it would be an excellent candidate for a full restoration but winning trophies was not my intent with this bike. rather winning the heart of it's new rider/owner.
