Very early production - magnesium case unrestored vintage Honda XL250 K0 4-stroke Enduro
What it is This is a very early production (7/1972) first year model K0/ Honda XL250 with magnesium engine case. It is in original unrestored condition. Still retains the horn. correct mirror. seat. reflectors. the original air box and exhaust. It was the first of Honda?ˆ™s then-new XL line of bikes.
Recent Service The entire bike has just had a once over with: new points / condenser. spark plug. valve adjustment. oil changed and filter screen cleaned. air filter. fork oil replaced. carb and fuel petcock over hauled. new inner tubes. brakes front and rear. cables. levers. lubed. etc. All replacement parts used were Honda NOS when possible.
History This bike has an interesting history. It was sold new locally by a shop called ?ˆ?Cycles Inc. ?ˆ? which is now long out of business. It was used as a demonstrator to show the buying public the new lightweight and powerful XL Enduro line being launched. The owner liked it so much that he used it personally until 1975. Then it was sold to the new owner / enthusiast who had it until recently. The second owner thought the original silver paint on the tank was too shiny so he had it repainted in the green color. I agree with his choice as well. I do have the correct ?ˆ?HONDA?ˆ? tank decals that will go with the bike.
Condition Very nice unrestored. original condition. These bikes are really getting rare as most didn?ˆ™t survive or were heavily modified. The extremely low mileage shown is true and correct. It starts easily. shifts fine. no smoke or funny noises. all lights work. The fuel tank inside is clean and rust-free. 2 original keys come with it that operates the fork and seat lock as well. It?ˆ™s in very nice. presentable and ride able condition overall. You know. anyone can restore one but it?ˆ™s only original once.
1976 Virginia title! Also included is an assembled book of recent parts / service installed and owners manual
Riding Experience It is very. very light considering it?ˆ™s a 4-stroke Enduro. Very nimble with a lot of torque! Really much better overall riding than comparable 2-stroke bikes of that era. Not fussy just smooth with gobs of torque.
This bike is nice enough to add to someone?ˆ™s collection and would take very little to make show quality- OR- it would make a great Christmas gift for that special someone to ride and enjoy! The great thing about original bikes like this is they keep their value and actually increases over time. I know because I also have several other original bikes.
