Description

Offered for your consideration is my rare, eautiful 1941 Indian Dispatch Tow. Purchased as a basket case in 2005,she underwent a painstaking 4 year restoration. This bike is as rare as they come, nd very few DT’s ever appear on the market.

The engine and transmission were completely restored by Jim Mosher of Performance Indian. The correct M641 carburetor was rebuilt by Cotten at Liberty Motorcycle Specialties. The generator was completely rebuilt by Indian Frank and the old mechanical voltage regulator housing was gutted and replaced with a modern electronic voltage regulator. The frame was jig straightened by John Bivens at Indian Engineering. The correct speedometer was completely rebuilt by Janus Napierala of Canada. The rear tow chassis received new bearings and seals throughout. The rear differential is in mint condition as are the two drive axles. In fact, very aspect of this rare bike is mint.

There are a few unique items on this 1941 Indian Dispatch Tow that bear mentioning. First, he proper complete tow bar assembly is attached to the front of the forks. These are rarely found on the remaining DT’s. Second, he speedometer has the max speed needle with reset button, n option virtually never found on the early 40?s speedometers.

Third, he bike is fitted with a perfectly functioning, ompletely rebuiltreverse gear box. These gear boxes are almost nonexistent, nd if one is found it almost always has a broken case that has been repaired. The box on this bike is in mint condition, nd cleanly shifts through its three forward and one reverse gear. Finally, nd perhaps most important, he tow box is New Old Stock, aving been removed from its factory crate it was placed in 1941 to be installed on this bike during the restoration. I can guarantee you this is without a doubt the most pristine tow box you will ever find. All the wood is absolutely mint, ith no rot or cracking whatsoever. The metal is mint and completely rust free. I did replace the badly age cracked seat cover on the box with fresh leather. The original will go with the bike to the new owner if he desires. The padding under the cover was mint and was reused as is. I even reused the original tacks that held the cover to its wooden frame. The black piping on the fender edges where they meet the body are also original and look as good as new. The tires are new Coker Indian Script models.

The frame is a proper Dispatch Tow front and rear. Dispatch Tows have their serial number on the top of the frame backbone, elow the seat which this one has. When I purchased the bike the cases were damaged so we used a set of cases from a 1940 Sport Scout rather than try and salvage the busted cases. The bike has a clear title to the frame number. No expense was spared bringing this old girl back to like new. All the nickel and Cad plating was done to top quality, nd the paint shines beautifully. Everything on the bike is in fantastic condition. I will note one change I made for my own personal preference. The primary cover is the earlier style Indian Script. This is from the late 30's but for my own personal taste makes the bike really stand out. It is easily changed back to the correct non script cover which is available from Jerry Greers. That is up to the new owner's preference if they want to change it out or not.
If you're wondering why I'm offering my old girl for sale, he simple answer is I have no room left in my garage and literally can't walk through there anymore, uch less do restoration work. I need to cull the herd a little bit. I love all my many old Indians and don't want to part with any of them but I've got 5 more Indian, n Excelsior and a BMW projects that I need to finish and simply need room to move around. I decided to sell a few of the bikes I don't ride that much to free up some space. My two go-to bikes are my '47 and my '53 Chiefs so sadly I just don't ride this old girl all that much. I've only put12 break-in miles on her since the rebuild so she's essentially brand new. She's a blast to ride though. Once every couple months I crank her up and ride her around the neighborhood, ometimes in reverse!
Now, own to the important stuff. Please, lease, lease don't bid if you don't plan on following through with your purchase.
