Description

1999 Indian Chief
First year for the reintroduction of the Iconic "Chief"
Only 1,100 were ever built in 1999 and this one is # 710
Indian comes with factory saddlebags, indshield, nd sissybar assembly.
Built and assembled in Gilroy, alifornia only from 1999-2003 and in Limited Numbers. Only the early ones from 99-01 had the S&S Engines which make them more sought after and more desirable as less problems occurred with them. The S&S Engine has been around for many years and has been proven to be a great one! Many of the custom builders including the largest aftermarket company "Big Dog" used S&S engines in their production lineup. Make no mistake these earlier Indians in my opinion are much better looking and more nostalgic than even the new ones on the market today. This Indian screams nostalgia wherever you go. The attention that this Indian draws is amazing. There is not another one like it that you will find that even comes close to the uniqueness of this motorcycle. There has been at least $5,000 spent on extras and the paint job alone is a one-off. This Indian is showroom new in most everyway from topside to the underneath as well. The original MSRP back in 1999 on these Indians was $24,000 not counting any of the extras such as the bags and windshield. There is so much to list on this Indian that I will try my best to list what has been done. You will not be disappointed at all in this one and is truly a "must see" to appreciate motorcycle. We have a classic corvette business buying and selling vintage corvettes and this has been my fathers personal motorcycle. He simply does not ride like he use to and would like to see the motorcycle go to someone that will enjoy it and take it to shows where it will win you many 1st place awards.
First off this motorcycle came from the Little Rock Arkansas and was purchased by us in August of 2013. The bike has 9,623 actual miles but once you see the Indian in person you would believe it to be only 963 miles. We did a nice cosmetic detail to the bike removing many of the chrome parts and refinishing them. All of the hardware on the bike was replaced with chrome nuts and bolts. There is probably $500 worth of chrome hardware on this motorcycle. We did rechrome the outer primary and replaced the partial chrome on the front forks. We did have all of the floorboard hardware chrome plated professionally as these parts were originally black in finish. All of the brakes were removed, leaned and new brake pads installed. The calipers were fully polished out to chrome like finish and the inserts with the Indian logo were painted red. The belt pulley was re-polished, ew hardware and the rotors were cleaned and painted. No corrosion at all as you can see. We completely hand polished all of the front fork tubes, leaned every inch of the engine and spent a lot of time making it the best we could possibly do. The bike was not rough, ut needed some attention to bring it over the top. We did replace the tires and tubes with new whitewalls, nd the wheels were cleaned and every spoke not over looked. The wheels are in great shape and the chrome is in excellent condition unlike most you will see as this was a problem as most people never even bothered to clean the rear wheel especially, s it was hard to get to. We also rechromed the air cleaner assembly. New "Banana" Style floor boards installed and a special rear brake lever was added to make it easier to use. There are many Indian accessories that we found and added that cannot be bought today. The handlebars are the stock "beach style" and are very comfortable. We did add chrome handlebar controls and chrome grips as well. The frame and engine were factory powder coated in gloss black and still looks nice and fresh. We also located original front and rear fender tips and had them as well sent off to be rechromed to show shine. They came out nice and set the fenders off in my opinion. The front Indian Chief head is made out of solid glass and has an LED Bulb in it for better brightness. The motorcycle does have a true set of Samson fishtail exhaust system with removable baffles. The exhaust system is the perfect length of 28.5". The sound of this motorcycle is like no other. And the looks fit the bike well. There has also been front frame chrome covers added and the coil is chrome as well. The oil filter is a special one made out of billet aluminum and has a built in filter that you can replace keeping the nice look of the polished exterior. That filter alone was over $150!
The saddlebags are a one-off set. The original maker of these bags for Indian was from Rocky's Bags out of California. I got in touch with him and he custom made them one inch wider and with red fringe that matches the red color on the motorcycle right on. He is the best in the business and the quality of his saddlebags and other parts and second to none. The saddlebags can be detached and are simply to install. The Indian also has a detachable sissybar that is not shown that goes with the bike and it is an oem original one, nd a factory "Indian" windshield and not just an aftermarket Harley style one. The windshield too is detachable. The windshield on the front and center has the embossed "Indian" logo put into it.
Other accessories include chrome custom tombstone LED tail light assembly with built in turn signals that do function as brake lights as well, ainted rocker box spacers, ostalgic coil cover, hrome head bolt covers, hrome tappet covers, hrome trim around the instrument cluster, hrome snap in caps on most all of the hardware bolts, he derby cover was polished out nicely and the insert Indian logo was painted in red to match the color of the motorcycle, here are so many touches to this Indian that I cannot name all of them. I do have a book "portfolio" put together with all receipts and such that do go with the bike. I do have an original owners manual, ales brochure, nd other literature pertaining to the 1999 Indian model. There is also custom keys made up with the "Chief" logo into them, hrome ignition switch, ed spark plug wires, ustom gas tank emblems, nd the list goes on and on. There is not much left you could possibly chrome or add to this Indian.
The paint on the motorcycle is very unusual. First off this was not a factory Indian color. This was and is a custom one-off color. The paint is actually custom Harley colors in Brilliant Red and Birch White. You may see similar versions but the red is not as flashy as this one! This is one of the most beautiful colors as my father had a Harley that was this color back in 1991. You seldomever see this color on a Harley much less an Indian. This paint was done professionally and striped nicely. It looks just like factory paint. The paint was done by my brother whom owns Redline Finishes here in Ozark and to give you an idea of the quality he does he painted a 1950 Ford F1 truck that was voted top 10 out of 5,000 vehicles at the Sema Show in Las Vegas in 2014! The Indian will stop traffic everywhere you go. We did spray the underside of the fenders with the truck bed coating to keep them from throwing a rock up into the underside of the fenders thus damaging the paint.
We did service the entire bike changing all fluids such as brake fluids, il, tc. We did replace the front master cylinder, nstalled a new battery with tender included, ew tires, ll rebalanced, ew brake pads and the good ones, arburetor removed and cleaned, ew fuel line, ew petcock valve, ll ready to ride or show. We have only ridden the bike about 200 miles since this was all done. We used Lucas Hi-Performance Motorcycle oil in the bike. A nice motorcycle cover is also included with the purchase.
