Description

Up for auction is a 1925 Indian Scout Motocycle. This is a rare and exquisite piece of old iron. It has the 37 ci (598 cc) V-twin engine with a 3 speed gearbox. It has a foot clutch on the left and jockey shifter on the right. It has no ignition key. You just kick start it and go. To shut the engine down. there is a manual engine decompression rod on the right side of the tank. It has a manual oil pump on the tank as well as a manual gas primer in the gas cap. It has a manual spark advance on the right handgrip with the throttle on the left handgrip. It has a foot brake for the rear brake drum on the right side. There is also a hand brake lever (not installed) that operates a secondary rear brake. This was common in racing as your right foot would be on a rear peg (included but not installed) and you would be dragging your left foot. In 1925. an Indian Scout Motorcycle (not this one) won the Coast to Coast Motorcycle Race with zero breakdowns. It was the only competitor not to have a breakdown. This motorcycle was manufactured for export board track racing. As such. it has a rare “X” code engine. This motorcycle was purchased by Charles Henry Mills in Sussex. England. He took delivery in 1927. He raced the motorcycle and rode it on the streets until 1962. The original Registration Book. license plates. and road tax disc are included. After he died. I obtained this bike on July 13. 1985 from a dealer in London who had purchased it from his wife. I have had the entire bike restored. The engine was rebuilt by Walker Machine Shop in Massachusetts. They are the foremost Indian expert in the world (imho). All the paint was matched to the original color as found on the underside of the tank in the cross bar well. All the non-painted parts were shiny nickel plated. as they would have been in 1925. Since this bike was a racer. it was restored as Mr. Mills rode it. The saddle is a Lycett saddle from Britain. It was on the motorcycle when I obtained it and remains with the motorcycle. All of the electrics were rebuilt. including the magneto and ammeter. The motorcycle does run and drive. I have not driven more than about 20 feet since the restoration. This motorcycle has never been titled in the U. S. I am selling it with the original British Registration Booklet. a copy of the Bill of Sale when I purchased it. and a Bill of Sale for this transaction. The Bill of Sale from when I purchased this motorcycle says “Indian Scout 1927” as does the British Registration Booklet. This is because it was received in London in 1927 and registered. The motorcycle is a 1925. The engine number is “56Y***Z”. This is correct for 1925. If you are uncomfortable with no U. S. title. and are the high bidder. I can title the motorcycle in Oklahoma before it is picked up. Any title transaction fees will be passed onto the buyer. I have included multiple photos to show the condition. If you would like additional photos. please specify the area you would like photographed and email me. I will either email them to you or post them to the auction ad. The paint has a few dings. mainly on the rear stand. This bike is in exceptional condition for a 90 year old piece of machinery. I put the year in for the mileage as there is no odometer. I put "Clear" for title. It has a clear British Registration but has never been titled in the USA.

The winning bidder will also receive a copy of “A Century of Indian” by Ed Youngblood. as well as literature and information I have accumulated through the years regarding this motorcycle. If you have any questions please email me and I will respond. I have noticed recently that AOL emails sent through the eBay message center are being blocked by AOL as eBay is a third party messenger.  FULL DISCLOSURE ON FEEDBACK: The 1 negative feedback I have which is bringing my rating down with the new calculations is because of a non-paying bidder. This person outbid everyone else on a car I was selling. He refused to use Ebay Escrow for payments. He tried not to pay the deposit. but finally did at the last minute. He refused to pay in full by the terms of the auction. The vehicle was in a different state and I had a friend who was going to meet the winning bidder. Because he would not pay. I had to drive 1200 miles to meet him so I could collect the money. I informed him that his deposit would be non-refundable and that there would be no negotiations. The price was what he bid. At this point. it's about 2 weeks past the auction end. When he finally showed up. late. he immediately started pointing out all the bad spots on the car. which I had disclosed in the auction and in the photos posted. He tried to negotiate on the price. I told him to just leave. I filed an Unpaid Bidder Strike against him. He tried to get the deposit back. but Ebay backed me on the non-refundable clause. He then proceeded to flame me on the feedback. I have been trying to get Ebay to remove the negative strike since he was a Non-Paying bidder. I have almost 1000 feedback. the majority of it good. Prior to this a**hole. I had a 98. 7% rating. You can bid with confidence. We can use Ebay Escrow if you desire since it is a high value auction. If you have any questions. please ask me.
