For Sale Fantastic Kawasaki W650 Bobber
I have had the bike for approximately four years only riding it to local summer shows and events and honestly at most of the shows in which it was entered it won. often beating much more expensive and exotic machines.
The donor bike was a very low mileage 2004 W650 parallel twin. with just 4000 miles on the clock and the bike still has only 6000 miles on it to date.
The retro vertical twin recreates the British bikes of the 1960s. without any of the pain. Like a classic Triumph 650. it is an air-cooled vertical twin in which both pistons rise and fall together however. this Kawasaki twin is counterbalanced to control vibration. it has a single overhead cam driven by a hypoid gear with an offset bevel drive shaft. four valves per cylinder. and displaces 676cc. bore and stroke is 72x83mm. Instead of the dreaded Amal carbs on the Bonneville the W650 has Twin Keihin 34mm CV carburettors delivering the fuel/air mixture to the engine. and the ignition is electronic. The slick shifting five-speed transmission has positive stops at first and fifth gears. Fifth feels like an overdrive gear. and keeps the RPM down when cruising on the interstate. Final drive is by chain.
The engine has benefited from a stage three tune and has had chrome ended K&N filters fitted to the carbs and to the flexible tube engine breather. all this means that the bike starts on the button and pulls like a train.
The bike has both electric and kick start which further adds to the retro look.
The attractive laced wheels are stock W650 lightweight flanged alloy rims and the tyres are Bridgestone’s. which are designed to resemble the classic Dunlop K-70's. The front is a ribbed 100/90x19. and the rear is a 130/80x18
The frame is a unique custom one off rigid (not hard tail) with a bow back top frame and has been stove enamelled in black. The metal battery box has been stove enamelled and houses a brand new Varta battery. The Chrome ended cylinder oil tank is a dummy unit and houses the electrics.
The bike has a custom side mounted number plate holder with integrated rear light and brake light. There are also led brake lights built into the end of the rear mudguard. The rear mudguard is fitted with a chrome carrier and chrome mini cats eye indicators.
The bike is fitted with forward controls. which include knurled alloy foot pegs and levers on black stove enamelled frames.
Seating is taken care of by a neat black leather single seat on chrome springs.
The heat wrapped shotgun exhaust system is ceramic coated under the heat wrap for better heat dispersion and gas flow and the last eight inches is chromed with turned out ends. The exhaust is also fitted with stainless cheese grater style heat shields. Be heard and be safe. these exhausts sound like rolling thunder and those pesky metal boxes will certainly hear you coming.
The front suspension is taken care of by chrome DNA Springer set up with built in DNA chrome indicators.
The front brake is a matching DNA chrome calliper and to keep the retro look the rear wheel has kept the mechanical drum brake from the W650.
The fantastic Chubby 1?” diameter 18” inch high Ape Bars are mated to 5” high chrome DNA risers. The bars are fitted with black foam grips. the levers and switchgear from the donor W650 and an Acewell digital mini Chrome Speedo unit. The headlight is a chrome replica bates unit.
The tank is a Harley Sportster item and like the rear mudguard (not fender) is painted in a very light metal flake Violet. the pictures don’t do the colour justice and it looks fantastic in the sunlight. There are red “Speedster” decals on the tanks. which are vinyl and easily removed.
Currently on SORN and stored in my living room and but will MOT for the buyer if reserve is met.
The bike is in fantastic condition and the colour is superb. the photos really don’t do it justice. I am definitely no David Bailey
Not for the faint hearted or for the shy. as this bike really goes and draws a crowd were ever it goes. great bike to ride and show. with fantastic retro looks and Japanese reliability.
