Kawasaki ER5 For sale W Reg 12 months MOT - 40. 00 miles
I have decided to sell my trusty ER5. I have been using this bike as my "winter hack" for the last 5 years and it has served me very well. When I bought it. the clocks said 6000 miles. but looking through the old MOT's. it has had mileage in the 30. 00. Therefore. I would now say that the true mileage of the bike would be in the low 40. 00 miles.
A few hundred miles ago. the bike got a new rear tyre. new chain and rear wheel bearings. I have also changed the front wheel bearings. replaced the front caliper and master cylinder to a later model ER5 set up with a braided line (its a better design than the original caliper) and put some hagon shocks on the back. The bike does sport some crash bars. a renntec rear rack and I think it has a puig front screen. It also has some oxford heated grips (an essential for every winter hack!) and also an uprated Yellow Gel battery. This battery cost ?80 but is well worth it. I also replaced the regulator rectifier at the same time.
It passed it's MOT just last week with only two advisories. one being a blow form the exhaust (small hole in the end can itself. not on the manifold so you could replace the end can with a stainless slip on muffler. it has been blowing for years and it never bothered me. makes the bike sound a bit more beefy!) I do have a spare full exhaust system available if you would like to make an offer for when you buy the bike.
The second advisory was a slight misting from the fork seal. I would advise the fork seal to be changed as on the way home from the MOT. the "slight misting" became a bit worse and so a new fork seal would be recommended.
The front mudguard is only cable tied on. I have been meaning to bolt it on properly but I have never got round to it. Its been like this for 12 months. lol
The front tyre has some meat left on it but does have a very slow leak. I tend to top it up every 3 - 4 weeks and I have been doing that since I bought the bike. I feel its a shame to get rid of a tyre when it still has some tread on it!
The front right indicator sustained some damage on my way in to work a few years ago. I duct taped it back together so I could get home with every intention of replacing it. As you can guess. its still not replaced and the duct tape is serving me well! It could ideally do with replacing but it works and I have had no problems with it since. I believe the saying goes "If it ain't broke (properly) then why try and replace it?" (or something like that!)
Also. the relay to turn the radiator fan on does not work. and so on a really hot day during traffic. the bike would start to run a bit hot and the fan not kick in. I put a switch on the bike that turns the fan on manually and I was wanting to replace the relay. but yes. the broken relay is still on the bike and the manual switch still works the fan. Being as I only used the bike in the winter. it never got that hot anyway!
The key does not stay in the barrel when the bike is on. I found this out the hard way as when I got home one night. the keys had flown of the bike and disappeared. Luckily I had a spare. To over come this "key losing feature". I clip the key on to the handle bars using a red key chain (colour matched you see :) This fantastic key chain is included in the sale.
Being my work horse. there are a few slight dings in the tank and the plastics are not in best condition. but its a hack. it doesn't need to look good. As long as it is mechanically sound. that is all a hack needs to do!
I last changed the oil and filter last year.
Due to the fact of the before mentioned "problems". I would sell this bike as spares or repair. However. I have been riding it like this for a number of years and I have just lived with them. You can ride the bike away no problem. The bike could do with a wash!
I believe I have priced it fairly. the bike does have a few small faults as mentioned but these are easily fixable. or if you like you could just live with them like I have for the last few years! I am open to sensible offers.
Please no time wasters. I have 1100+ positive feedbacks and intend to keep it that way. I have tried to be as honest as I can (if you can't already tell!) I am only selling due to having three cars and another bike. My wife and I have just had our first child a few months ago and I need to sell a few of my toys. Unfortunately for me. the winter bike has to go first. I am not using it as much any more and it has been under a cover at the back of my garden for a few weeks so it is time for it to go.
Viewing is recommended and encouraged. The bike is in Reading. Berkshire
