Description

For sale. one of the most fearsome and legendary motorcycles of the 70s. Kawasaki's 3-cylinder 2-stroke 750. So dubbed the "Widowmaker" for its bad manners and propensity for depositing its rider on his back now and then. I bought this a year or so ago. hauled it here from California. and tore into it a few weeks ago to freshen it up for sale. As always I got carried away but that's good news for you. I have been through the chassis and the carburetors and quite of lot of the motorcycle is totally refreshed and good to go. From front to rear. here's what I've done:Removed the fork. disassembled it. cleaned it 100%. replaced the oil and dust seals. reassembled it. Fork tubes are very good. no pits around the seal area. there was light rust under the triple clamps. I removed with scotchbrite and WD40. doesn't affect function or looks. Disassembled front caliper. cleaned it. replaced the seals. Disassembled the master cylinder. cleaned and rebuilt it with new seals. Installed new reproduction brake lines. although I had the upper line shortened a few inches because the bike wears Superbike bars of the period and the stock-length line was too long. Disassembled the steering head. cleaned it and replaced the bearings with tapered roller bearings. Lubed all the cables plus the speedometer and tach cables. Note - the tach is NOT working. don't know why. Derusted the tank with vinegar. but did NOT line it. Rebuilt the petcock with new seals. diaphragm is good. Replaced the fuel lines and installed mini inline fuel filters. Ultrasonic cleaned the carburetors and replaced all three floats. plus two of the three float needle valves. Did NOT replace the float bowl gaskets. and they are leaking. Needs careful sync. Replaced the airbox and intake plenum and clamps with new reproduction parts. Cleaned out the oil injection tank. replaced its line to the oil pump. Removed the swingarm. cleaned it. regreased it. replaced the stock bushings with bronze ones. Replaced the upper shock bushings. Disassembled the rear wheel to the bearings. cleaned out the drum brake. regreased the pivots. replaced the brake shoes. Regreased the bearing in the sprocket carrier. Wheel bearings good. Replaced the battery with a modern AGM. installed a modern ATC main fuse holder. soldered in place. Sealed the exhaust with copper high temp RTV. installed new springs on the spigots. Replaced the horn with a high quality reproduction unit. Recovered the seat with a very high quality reproduction coverWent through all the wiring. made sure everything turns off. on. blinks. brake light switches at both ends working. etc. Front turnsignals are NOT installed. Don't have them. Replated the rear brake lever (zinc)Previous owner painted it the cool purple/green flip-flop paint. and it's very good. There is a nick at the rear near the seat. pictured. Plus a few dozen other mini-projects I am forgetting. Then. finally. I rolled it back out of the shop. kicked it a total of three times. and it fired right up. Ran damn well. Scared me. in fact :-)NOW. the less good news. It has a Denco exhaust from the period. much lighter than stock and better performing. but it's rattly and dented in several spots. It is solid though. and it sounds positively evil and not too loud. The old battery leaked and stained the chrome on the left pipe. along with some minor damage to the frame paint that I touched-up. The transmission is leaking oil from somewhere on the underside of the engine. It's nothing obvious or I'd have fixed it. It needs new tires. The seat lock is missing. I know very little about the history of the bike. the engine is a total unknown to me. If you come to see the bike I will leave it stone cold and it will start and run great with 1-2 kicks. But it could grenade tomorrow. I have no idea. I have done less than a mile on the thing around the parking lot. that's it. You are buying a 40 year-old motorcycle with a leaky transmission that sat for a number of years. The engine should probably come apart and be rebuilt and sealed back up. If that all sounds like the most honest and straightforward eBay ad you've ever read. well that was my intention. I want you to have a clear picture of what this is and isn't before you bid. That said. these are rare and getting rarer. a true piece of motorcycling history. and a pretty decent investment with real potential for appreciation. Asking $6. 00 for a "Buy it Now". Clean California non-op title. I documented and photographed all the work I did. and have a wad of receipts. There's no way I don't end up upside-down on this thing. Please buy and enjoy it. Local pickup or I'd be happy to assist with shipping. but the bike MUST be picked up within 2 weeks of auction close. PLEASE ask any questions you like or request additional photos. or if you're local. come have a look.
