1976 Kawasaki KZ900A4 Engine No. Z1E-089890 and Frame No Z1F-500847. This bike was made very early (9-1975) in the first production run for the KZ900’s at the Lincoln NE assembly plant. The bike was totally restored in 2013. It has just over 33000 original miles with about 500 miles put on since the restoration. It starts runs and handles as good as it looks. Everything on this bike has been gone through. Starting with the frame it was blasted and power coated a satin black by IHD in Kansas City and very closely matches the original sheen. Several of the other black painted pieces received the same treatment like the tach and speedo shells side stand center stand triple tree battery box gauge mounts etc. The engine was completely disassembled and rebuilt. The cases and any other bare cast aluminum parts were vaporblasted by Bikesalot Vaporblasting. The head was rebuilt and finished by Joe Hooper at Pit Stop Performance. The cylinder bores were honed by a local machine shop and the piston rings were replaced. Cam chain and guides were replaced. Everything else was within spec. When neededzinc plated hardware was re-plated at a local industrial plater and all of the chrome except the rims and turn signals were re-plated. The speedo and tach were rebuilt by Z-Resto and the carbs by WiredGeorge Motorcycle Carbs. The tank tail and side covers were painted by Young Pon in Washington State. All gaskets seals fluids tubes tires steering and wheel bearings shocks brake pads and shoes seat cover/pan chains wiring harnesses etc were replaced. I attempted to refinish and repair as many of the original parts as possible. Most everything that was replaced was with NOS/OEM parts when available. When necessary quality reproduction parts were used. I purchased most of the parts from Redline Cycles and Z1 Enterprises and ordered some directly from Webike in Japan. The exhaust is reproduction purchased from Z1 Enterprises.
While trying to restore the bike as close to stock as possible I did take some liberties and upgraded a few things. I added Dyna electronic ignition and coils stainless steel spokes stainless steel allen head bolts for the engine covers roller bearings in the swing arm (instead of the stock bushings) sealed wheel bearings O-ring chain superbike (not as wide or high as factory) heavy-wall handlebars Rizoma classic mirrors short stock turn signals solid state rectifier and voltage regulator and braided steel front brake lines using DOT 5 fluid. The inside of the gas tank was chemically cleaned and coated using a kit from Caswell Plating. The airbox is original but it does not have the silencer. It does have the original and complete tool kit and owner’s manual. The four way flasher works and the original turn signal buzzer works. I purchased the bike from a local Kawasaki dealer who was selling it on consignment. It was in fair running condition and a solid bike. The frame had not be chopped or rewelded and the motor had not been modified or “hot rodded.” The bike is being sold in as is condition with no warranties or guarantees. The bike can be viewed in the Kansas City Missouri area upon request. It is the buyer’s responsibility to arrange shipping or pick up. I have a clear Missouri title in hand. I can take additional photos if needed and feel free to ask any questions. A $500 deposit via Paypal is required by the winning bidder with 48 hours of the end of the auction with the remainder due in7 days. I accept cash and bank transfers. Also published at eBay.com
