1975 Kawasaki KZ400 S - Caf? Racer Styled after Ducati SS

Runs great and looks even better. The appearance is really stunning

This is the most beautiful caf? racer I've seen in my part of the world. It's styled after the classic Ducati Super Sports and it really looks fantastic. This bike is a true blast to ride and is the center of attention wherever I take it. The physical appearance is flawless…look close at the picture. Also note the tricky seat tank junction…most caf? builds are not this tight. I never entered it in a bike show but I know it would win! I'm selling because I’m in some financial troubles…my loss is your gain.

No expense was spared on this build. It was built last winter by me and a friend with great skills. Here is what was done to the stock 1975 K400S…

· Air Tech fiberglass fairing (900SS)

· Air Tech frame mounting kit (nice piece…whole thing can be unbolted…no welding)

· Gustafsson Plastics windscreen and mounting hardware

· Air Tech fiberglass caf? seat

· Air Tech fiberglass seat pan

· Air Tech seat mounting studs (upholstered seat can be removed)

· Custom Upholstered seat from Fisher Griffin in Cincinnati (they work hard the seat tank junction…best I've seen)

· Paint by a local body shop with 3 coats of clear coat ($900 paint job!)

· New peashooter exhaust that looks and sounds great

· Customer electrical pan using stock rubber mounts

· LED Tail Light

· Rear LED Turn Signals with integrated brake light (nice piece)

· Front LED Turn Signals flush mount

· Bar End Mirrors

· AGM Dry cell battery…1.3 Amp hours (from the factory bike does not have electric start)

· Air Cleaner removed and pods installed and up one on jet size

· Breather filter installed

· Original mounting tabs trimmed and painted

· Front fender trimmed (very slight bubbling in the chrome)

That's a lot of work and money. I know I'll never get my money back so this will be a good deal for someone. What's nice about it is that all the body work is bolted on…easily modified.

The bikes runs great. Will start on the first or second kick. This S model came from the factory with kick start only and a beautiful from drum brake (the reason I bought it). All the electrics work and are professionally done. There is a switch to turn off the headlight but I never used it.

The bike now has 17880 miles. I bought the bike with 17010 and was modified with 17060. Tires are in good shape. The motor does leak some oil. I carry a rag with me to wipe it up. It appears to be coming for the head. The leak has not bothered me enough to get fixed. Also the oil light will flicker on when the bike is hot and at idle. I'm told I need to put in heavier oil (Castol 4T 10W-40 in now). Oil light never flickers when off of idle and this has never been a problem.
