The History...While I do not personally know the original owner or have documented history of this bike, he information we do have comes from credible sources and is 100% supported by the bikes condition. The person we obtained the bike from got it from the original owner. This bike was bought new in Syracuse New York at Lakeshore Kawasaki as indicated by the original dealer key fob and medallion on the fuel tank. The bike was ridden duringour short summersuntil 1984 for a total of 9175 miles, then sat in a garage until recently. The Motorcycle Rescue crew has brought the bike back to life properly and given it a pretty thorough detailing while leaving the bike as original as possible. It is now being offered in what we would consider ride and/or restore condition.
The Motorcycle...
First off, his bike is not perfect. It has plenty of evidence of life in the damp humid Northeast. But even with that said, hat life was always indoors if not in use and I would still consider this bike a “Survivor”. It is in far better condition than most its age. With only 9175 original miles the bike is extremely original....Right down to the tires (That need replacing! we left them as a testament to this bikes originality). The bike appears to have tipped over on each side which has dimpled the the outside surfaces of the rear signals and scratched one of the back gauge covers. The foot controls, egs and steering stops show no signs of ever going down in motion.
From top to bottom...
The mirrors, evers, rips and switches appear to be all original and in good condition. The handlebar is original and straight but has some chrome peeling and some light pitting. The meters are in good condition with just a bit of fading in the redline section of the tach. The chrome cover on the back of the speedometer has some scratches on it. The bodywork is in very good condition. there is no paint fade and the finish still shines well. The tank has some bubbling behind the paint around the emblems, nd there are 2 very slight dents that can be seen in the right light or if you go looking for them. The tail has some light rub marks on it that appear to be from a tail pack or something. They are not bad or thru the paint and may be able to be buffed out. The seat is near perfect. The side covers are in very good to excellent condition. The right side like new the left, he same except for some sections of the pinstripe has come off. No cracks or broken tabs, nd the emblems are excellent. The chrome fenders are in excellent condition. The engine cases show some age but have been cleaned pretty well. The engine covers have been re-polished and installed with new gaskets (this is the only refinishing that has been done). The exhaust has some scratches to the chrome and the left muffler has a battery acid stain. Rust can be seen in the pipes but there are no holes and the bottoms of the mufflers are solid. The front fork lowers have a bit of oxidation under the clear. The rear shocks are in excellent condition and work like new. The front brake pads & rotors are near new and appear to have been used hardly at all. The rear brake pads and rotor are also in excellent condition. The wheels are in great condition and have the original Kawasaki clip-on wheels weights.
What was done...
The entire fuel system was properly cleaned. The tank acid etched and PROPERLY lined, new cap gasket installed. The fuel valve was rebuilt with new seals. The carburetors cleaned, ynchronized and tuned. The carbs still had the plastic limiting caps on the mixture screws that we modified to allow full range of adjustment but look original. The airbox received new boots to the carbs. The airbox is all stock even the silencers & filter, lamps, nd screws appear original and in great condition. New oil & filter, ew spark plugs, he points cleaned and adjusted. The mechanical advancer was also cleaned and lubed. The brake calipers were disassemble, leaned and rebuilt. The original components were in excellent condition. Master cylinders were flushed and cleaned, nd the front reservoir is in great condition. The forks received new seals, ust covers and 15W oil. A new glass mat battery, ender lead and side cover grommets were alsoinstalled.
This bike runs and looks great. It's a great bike for a high level restoration, omeone to replace/refinish details to make an even nicer survivor, r enjoy it like it is, s still looks and works much better than most.
