1993 Kawasaki KDX 125-B2 SR ?ˆ¦. Only 4165 miles. No Tax or MOT
This is a full power 125 off road bike unlike newer models which are restricted for the learner market and have no real off road capabilities. 70mph is easily achieved. I never had the desire to try push it more than this but the revs aren?ˆ™t peaking at this speed so it should do more if that?ˆ™s what you are into!
From my understanding the KDX 125-B2 SR model was the best spec and the engine is more or less the same as an earlier KX.
This bike has had 3 former keepers who had given it very little use. it was pretty clear from the condition it was in when I purchased it that it had never been off road and had been very well looked after.
I bought this bike just before summer last year & rode it pretty much every night & weekend on the various trials I was fortunate to have on my doorstep. I usually rode by myself in very remote places with terrain which would make it impossible to push the bike home. as such I always made sure it was in the mechanical condition whereby I was confident that it wouldn?ˆ™t let me down. From jumping logs to steep boggy hill climbs there have been more than a few blokes on 450?ˆ™s left frustrated at how hard they have had to work on some trails to keep up with this 21 year old 125.
Just as the weather was starting to take a turn for the worse last year the clutch started to slip when hot. the powervalve didn?ˆ™t seem to be working correctly and I felt the carburettor could do with re-jetting?ˆ¦ it was a definite case of bad things coming along in threes!
Anyway with mostly riding by myself in remote areas with no phone signal I didn?ˆ™t much fancy riding the already challenging trails in winter weather. So I retired the bike to the garage and decided to save up for a few months with the view to having the aforementioned problems fixed. getting the frame & casings painted. fitting a set of off road knobbly tyres and adding a few tuning parts.
Then my circumstances changed and I moved away?ˆ¦ the bike is stored at my parents as I don?ˆ™t have anywhere else to keep it and I would no longer be spoiled for choice and convenience of trails?ˆ¦ it?ˆ™s taken me until now to reluctantly accept that the bike needs to go.
The bike was partially stripped so that I could inspect the top end. based solely on my own opinion I had no plans to rebuild the top or bottom of the engine. I did plan on taking it to a dealership for them to resolve the KIPS powervalve issue. set-up the carb and give it a pre-MOT check as I was not confident in undertaking this work.
I got a bargain on a second hand clutch through Ebay (Included in sale) and felt the best course of action was to swap the clutch out of the bike with the spare. I figured that once I was happy with the clutch then I could ride the bike to a dealership. I?ˆ™m wary of using clutch holders or jamming gears with copper coins as experience has instilled in me the requirement for using the correct tools. Basically in this case I feel the best way to loosen the nut holding the clutch on is to use an impact wrench hooked up to an air compressor with a decent power rating. something I don?ˆ™t own or have access to. Shortly after this my circumstances changed and the bike sat in the garage.
Having decided that the bike needed to be sold I paid it a visit the other day to reassemble everything (New gaskets used) and fit a brand new good quality chain and sprocket kit which I had been keeping in my spares box since buying the bike. Admittedly I was pushed for time so the clutch just got chucked back together. I didn?ˆ™t fill it back up with coolant or bleed the system and its only got a bit of oil in just to keep things lubricated. The way I saw it was I was saving work for the new owner as they would only have to drain the coolant and oil to swap the clutch. As such I haven?ˆ™t tried to fire up the bike since reassembly but can?ˆ™t foresee any reason why there would be a problem and I?ˆ™ve included various pictures of key parts during disassembly. When I reassembled the bike unfortunately I was unable to locate the bracket which bolts the exhaust to the frame which was annoying as I?ˆ™m meticulous about storing and labelling parts during disassembly.
I am not a mechanic. I?ˆ™ve had off road bikes for 12 years so there are some maintenance tasks which I am willing to undertake but at the same time I don?ˆ™t push my limits and value the importance of taking bikes to a professional for inspection and repair. The only works which I am aware of are the ones which I have mentioned but this is solely my opinion and no inspection has been carried out by a professional. I have taken the time to write a detailed and honest listing. I have a good feedback rating and have received nothing but praise for my descriptions of a number of bikes sold on Ebay over the years.
The bike is sold as spares or repair with no warranty or guaranty?ˆ¦ It is sold as seen. You are bidding to buy. not just to come have a look. Viewing can be arranged but please bear in mind my reasons for selling it so accommodating a viewing would involve quite a bit of time and diesel on my part. as such no timewasters please. I didn?ˆ™t want the bike to look deceiving in the pictures so I haven?ˆ™t cleaned it up. there is light dirt under the mudguards and various places?ˆ¦ I gave it a quick blast with the power washer before it was retired to the garage as my original plan was to clean each individual part during disassembly.
I?ˆ™m a man of my word and this auction will run all the way to the end. Anyone with less than 10 feedback please contact me by phone first so that we can have a quick chat before you place a bid?ˆ¦ otherwise I will just remove your bid. The bike is located in the village of Pickhill. North Yorkshire the postcode is YO7 4JG. The bike must be collected from there within 3 days of the auction end. Payment is by cash on collection.
Thanks
