Description

This is my ZXR750 race bike. which I'm reluctantly putting up for sale. It was originally a K1 model. and was registered for the road (it has a V5 and a number plate) in 1993 but was converted to race spec straight away and competed in the British Superbikes series in '93 and '94. I bought it in 1995 and raced it until 2001. It was also used once or twice for instruction on track days. It's a proven race winner. and although a little long in the tooth now. I'm sure it would still be competitive. or would make a potent track day tool. Since then it's been locked away in my garage. and now I need to find a good owner for it as I need the space for other projects. and my own racing days are over. While I was racing it. the engine was fully rebuilt with new race kit parts every season. and the oil and filter were changed after every race meeting. Technically it's had everything done to it. and I'll try to list as much as possible:Fully factory race kitted engine. including: race kit valves; race cams; flowed. polished and skimmed head; lightened. polished and balanced rods; Cosworth race pistons; lightened and balanced crank; race kit slipper clutch with ex-John Reynolds lightened clutch hub; kit close ratio gearbox; kit radiator; World Superbike spec (ex-Scott Russell) magnesium clutch cover; full Gibson race exhaust with tapered headers; 40mm Keihin flat-slide race carbs with short-action throttle. At it's peak it was producing over 140 bhp at the back wheel. as a genuine 750. It also has Maxton reworked forks with Maxton internals. Spondon cast discs and Billet 6-pot calipers. Harris quick-change clip-ons. Harris rear sets and an race-spec EMC rear shock sprung for a rider of about 10 stone. It has a polished frame and swing arm with carbon/kevlar frame protectors. Scitsu tachometer and genuine Kawasaki race kit temperature guage. It's also been converted to run 520 pitch chain and sprockets. And it's got a few hundred pounds' worth of titanium nuts and bolts. It runs a total loss electric system. meaning there is no generator. and all electric power comes from the battery. This means when the battery goes flat. the bike stops. However. with a fully-charged battery it will run at full race speed for at least 45 minutes. as all it has to run is the fuel pump and the sparks at the plugs. I used to have two batteries on the go. so one could charge from the car while the other was in use. Since I last raced it I've fitted a 804cc conversion kit from TTS. and have also refitted the starter motor. with a view to making it a more user-friendly track bike. This means I've had to fit a standard clutch drum and oil pump. but I still have the kit parts. along with many other parts which will be included with the bike. I also still have the 750 barrells and Cosworth pistons. which are also included. The only thing I haven't done is put it on a dyno to sort out the jetting. It will probably need bigger main jets to carry the extra cc's. However. also included is a complete set of jets of all sizes - changing them is about 20 minutes' work. but is best done on a dyno to optimise it. It also comes with a complete set of front and rear sprockets. a brand new DID x-ring chain. spare levers. spare handlebars. spare brake pads. spare footrests. a complete spare set of wheels complete with bearings and discs and fitted with unused full wet tyres. and a set of tyre warmers. Cosmetically. well it's a 20 year old race bike so the are a few marks here and there. but mainly on the fairing and seat unit. But in the main it's very clean and straight. and has never had a heavy crash. It handles beautifully. with the front end in particular as good as. if not better than. most modern race bikes. However. it must be said that these old bikes are not as easy to ride as newer machines. and it can be a bit of an animal. It needs to be ridden hard to get the best out of it - it doesn't respond well to a gentle touch. Probably not for the faint-hearted. however. ridden aggressively but with some respect. it's still staggeringly fast and planted. The parts themselves are worth far more than I'll probably get for the bike. but I can't bring myself to break it. so it's up for auction. Viewing (and hearing it run) is welcome. but no tyre-kickers please. this is a serious bit of kit.  Any questions. or if I've forgotten anything. please ask. I'll need a £50 deposit within 24 hours of the auction ending. otherwise I'll relist it. and cash on collection please within 5 days. I may be able to deliver within a reasonable distance for the petrol cost. It is listed elsewhere. so I reserve the right to end the auction early. Good luck
