KTM 640 LC4 Rallye - Collectors Prototype 1997

Rebuilt prototype KTM 640 LC4 RallyeManufactured in 1997 as the prototype to the 1998 KTM Rallye for Paris-Dakar. With the development of this prototype KTM won the Paris-Dakar with the LC4 Rallye from 2001 to 2006. and have done so ever since with newer models. This bike is what started it all for KTM leading the way!Never raced the Paris-Dakar. but the first owner raced in the deserts of the Emirates. the second owner imported it to Tanzania.  The second owner is a microlight pilot and meticulous with his mechanical toys. unfortunately he hit a tree at night. luckily not going fast. Broke his leg. the fuel tank. front mud guard. and faring. All other parts and frame were not harmed. The new front tank is 20L rather than 35L. The faring is homebuilt in epoxy resin and kevlar-fiberglass laminate using the old faring as a mold. New chain and both sprockets. New Italian made Golden off road tyres with Golden mousse. Rear Tyre 120 with 140 mousse. Reconditioned Delorto PHM 40 carburator - new jets and tuned using an oxygen sensor - running close to lambda 1. 0 so power is very high. Reconditioned valves and valve seats. Proper servicing done and well tested. The rear shock absorber needs new rubber seals due to slight leakage. The dangerous rallye map roller has been replaced by a rubber mounted wood plate with sponge and velcro for navigation equipment.
