Description.

The Laverda Mirage is a bike with its own special brand of charm and charisma. the big triple has a unique sound and delivers performance that is still impressive by today’s standards. This particular machine is a 1982 model and it is in very good overall condition. please read our description below for full details of the bike.

The petrol tank is in excellent condition there are no dents or damage and the paintwork is clean with no significant marks. The left hand side panel is in similarly good order. however the paint work on the right hand panel is scraped; this was damage caused in transit. The two small panels under the seat and the tail piece are again in good shape with no damage.

The rear mudguard has been repainted but shows no sign of damage or repair. the front mudguard is clean and solid. it has a light scrape at the front.

The seat is in very good condition. it appears to be original. the cover has no rips or tears and the base is very clean with no sign of corrosion.

The exhausts appear to be the original items and are in excellent condition. there is a small area around the bracket on the left hand pipe which is dull but both are solid and have no significant marks or rust. The wheels are also extremely clean. with no sign of any damage

The frame is very clean and in good order. there is no sign of excessive play in the headstock. swinging arm or wheel bearings. The forks are in good condition. the stanchions are clean and the seals are tight. the action is smooth and damping effective. The rear shocks are replacement Koni units. they are both clean and damping effectively. The front and rear brakes are the original Brembo items and are working effectively.

The engine is very clean and in good cosmetic condition. it starts well and once running it is mechanically quiet and runs well. the engine does smoke a little and while usable this will require investigation. When running the bike up and assessing the bike we have experienced an intermittent fault on the left hand cylinder. we believe that this is either a carburetion or an spark issue.

We have taken the bike for a short test ride and it rides very well the riding position is remarkably comfortable for a bike with rear sets and dropped bars. while this is subjective the bars are fully adjustable. The gears all select cleanly and the clutch works as it should.

We have fitted a new battery to the bike. The headlight works well on high and dip beam. the rear light is not working; the brake light is working on both the front and rear brakes. the bike does not have any indicators fitted. The horn is working well.

The bike has its original instruments fitted. the speedo is a KPH item there is some damage to the rev counter housing again this was caused in transit. we are advised that this is the same as the item fitted to the Honda CB750 / CB900F so a replacement item should be easily sourced. The bike appears to be fitted with Suzuki switchgear we suspect that this is not original equipment. this is shown in the picture of the instruments.

In summary this Mirage is in in very good overall condition. cosmetically it will need the paint damage rectified on the right hand side panel and the instrument housing replaced. On the mechanical side the intermittent issue on the left hand cylinder will require resolving and reason for the light smoking will need further investigation. The Mirage is a rare and sought after practical classic. given the values that these bikes are now commanding this particular example should prove a very rewarding way to spend a few winter evenings in all senses.
