Moto Guzzi 1979 v50 cafe racer VERY light MOT?ˆ™d

twin shock air cooled vintage distinguished daily runner

huge amount of work done to this classic v50 cafe racer special.

Very light. (140kg with all oils and fuel!) handles superbly. sounds fantastic but not terribly anti-social.

I bought this little beauty a couple of years ago from an elderly lady who had owned and ridden it for years until arthritis got the better of her. It had always been garaged and well looked after by her husband who was a real bike enthusiast. When i bought it. it was completely standard and original and as near mint as you will find. i immediately set about stripping everything off it which wasn?ˆ™t absolutely necessary to quick riding! (don?ˆ™t ask for any of the original parts. they were sold off long ago). The bike is now very much my ?ˆ?cup of tea?ˆ™. it is seriously light. even the stylish ?ˆ?Vincent style?ˆ™ drag handle bars are very rare Renthal alloy bars so very light as well as rust proof! There are quite a few one-off hand made parts on the bike that i am very proud of. like the beautiful elegant headlight brackets which i fabricated myself. All un-necessary brackets have been removed and the frame cleaned up. The top seat rails and bottom rails have both been shortened to save a bit more weight (it all adds up) but also to improve looks. I have welded in a few new brackets like across the top rails to support the perfectly fitting GRP cafe racer seat. a lovely properly done job. And the new ignition switch position very nicely mounted inside the main triangle under the seat. which i think makes the front end/top yoke area look so much cleaner and better. There are no clocks or idiot lights as you don?ˆ™t need them unless you are an idiot. If you want a speedo (not required for MOT) you can easily mount your smart phone to the bars with a GPS speedo app downloaded for free 9i have one on my phone i can show you) or mount a little bicycle computer digital speedo discretely and cheaply. or of course you and pick up the original Veglia speedo cheaply enough on ebay to put speedo back to standard. but i love the front end as bare as it is now!

Because it is so light it is pretty nippy for a ?ˆ?littlun?ˆ™. it?ˆ™s a tiny nimble cafe racer with a very low centre of gravity so would be ideal for a cheap practical runabout or weekend toy for the shorter rider or a girl. (yeah yeah i know there are some big strong girls out there. sorry. but ON AVERAGE i reckon girl bike riders might be a bit shorter and less able to lift a big heavy bike off the ground if the drop it. than most biker blokes) but i?ˆ™m not saying this is a girls bike. i?ˆ™m 6?ˆ™3?ˆ? and a 16 stone ex-super heavyweight boxer. and this bike fits me fine and i love riding it. I can really throw it about. it?ˆ™s more like riding a Jap 250 race rep like a TZR or RGV 250 but with bags of Guzzi 4 stroke torque (now i?ˆ™m talking myself into keeping it!). only thing i would do if keeping and using as a daily runner would be to make a little pad for the seat. but for a bit of weekend fun roaring about it is fine as it is! If i was keeping it i would also de-link the brakes. using a bigger front master cylinder to operate both front calipers. easily done but i?ˆ™m emigrating so selling off all but one of my bikes. so i will leave any further mod?ˆ™s to the next happy owner. and i know the next owner will be happy with this sweet well sorted little beauty.

Short list of mod?ˆ™s. /p>

Crap original shocks replaced with genuine Koni adjustable shocks from a lemans mk3 to slightly raise rear end and quicken steering slightly.

Ignition switch moved to under seat properly mounted in custom made one-off steel bracket welded into frame.

Top yoke and bar clamps stripped of paint/anodising back to semi-polished alloy.

Polished billet alloy CNC cut head protectors. very good!

Centre stand delete.

clocks and idiot lights delete.

Cable operated remote front master cylinder replaced with conventional bar mounted brembo master cylinder from KTM supermoto.

Front mudguard delete.

Rear mudguard delete

Indicators delete.

Crap original switch gear replaced with modern KTM rh switch and classic millar type lh switch

Standard heavy seat and bracketry replaced with very light very neat GRP cafe racer seat

Bates style LED stop tail light

Exhaust de-restricted with shorty reverse cone megaphones from a triumph bonny

Inlet de-restriced by removal on very restrictive airbox and filter. re-jetted to suit.

Very neat engine oil breather box fitted from 750 ntx which allows rocker box oil to return to sump all plumbed in correctly.

Since these pictures i have re-mounted the tail light a bit further up and fitted a smaller neater flexy number plate higher up too. much neater. will upload a pic?ˆ™ later. You can have the legal size number plate too.

Probably more i?ˆ™ve forgotton. will add to list as i remember more.

Bike can be viewed at my home in North London N4. near Finsbury park. need to sell quickly as emigrating. and can't take all my beloved bikes with me. open to sensible offers for a quick sale. but i have put a lot of time and hard work into this little treasure so won't be giving it away. it's well sorted. MOT'd and ready to enjoy!

Contact to be made within 12 hours of end of auction to arrange payment in cash and collection within 7 days of end of auction please. thanks. any questions please ask. i will do my best to answer fully.

I have v5 in my name and both original folding factory keys!

As i haven't touched the bike since July when i took it for it's MOT. i thought i better start it up and take it for a bit of a thrash to blow off the cobwebs etc and make sure was all good for any buyer. started instantly. though coughed and spluttered for a few seconds til the fuel reached both carbs. then cleared and ran beautifully. fueled it up at nearest petrol station and went for a half hour thrash. what fun! it still rides spot on. put a big smile on my face. sounds superb. draws lots attention like a proper cafe racer should ;-) will be sad to see it go! might do a video clip of it running tomorrow so you can see how nicely it starts and runs!

Ok here is a link to a little video clip i made this afternoon and just put on youtube. it shows that the bike is stone cold. i grab the header pipe with my bare hand. i don't just touch it for a second but grab old of it hard. the bike hasn't been run today yet starts INSTANTLY first touch of the starter button. i do flick the choke off a bit early so it sounds a bit 'fluffy' for a bit. but that was only because i didn't know how much memory there was on my phone and want to make it a short clip. if i had let it warm up on the choke a little longer it wouldn't have sounded so 'fluffy'. but you can see how instantly it starts and how quickly it settles to a lovely steady tick over at idle (no hands ;-)
