SERTUM  in Latin CROWN In 1922 born in Milan in Viale Certosa. Officine Meccaniche Fausto Alberti specialist in the construction of engines for industrial and motorboat. In 1932 he began producing motorcycles under the brand Sertum. The first model is a 175 4-stroke side valve (VL 175). rigid frame and three-speed gear by hand. The following year. the 175 was joined by the unconventional (for the time) Batua. lightweight motorcycle with a two-stroke engine of 120 cc. two-speed gearbox and chassis open. After just two years after the start of the motorcycle production Sertum had a large catalog: Batua is passed to the popular 175 (available in Tourism. Sport and Super Sport). the 250 (with engine derived from the 175). to the prestigious 500 twin side-valve. presented at the Milan Show in 1934. In 1937 the 250 cc Sertum up became available with elastic frame Sertum 250 VL 1937 in elastic frame . In those years. the Milan was one of the most important Italian houses. so as to constitute the so-called "pentarchy" along with Benelli. Bianchi. Gilera and Moto Guzzi. The Sertum did not disdain to take part in competitions. especially those of regularity. with excellent results (five gold medals at the Six Days 1939). With the approach of World War II the Sertum devoted himself to supplies for the army in this regard was designed MCM 500. with single-cylinder side-valve. The MCM is notable because it was one of the first Italian bikes with drum brakes center. The civilian production resumed in 1946 with Sertum models MC 500 (civilian version of the MCM). VT-4250 (single-cylinder OHV) and the new BT-4500 twin-cylinder OHV. He also renewed the sport: the Six Days of 1947 the Czechoslovak Sertum won two gold medals. Between 1947 and 1948 they were presented with two 250 subcompact VL-4 side-valve and Sport monotube the sporty look. The VL-4 was used successfully in the Regularity (it won three gold medals at the Six Days 1949). With the fifties began the crisis for the Milan: models in the catalog no longer met the needs of the market. asking more and more light motorcycles and scooters. In addition. the failure to pay a lot of bikes sold in Argentina caused a large "hole" financially. He tried to straighten out the situation with a 125 two-stroke 4-speed transmission. introduced in 1950. The 125 was unable to revive the company (never went into production). resulting in a worsening of the crisis. In 1952 the Sertum came to an end with the failure and the liquidation.
