Description

Matching Numbers and rides perfectly!1974 Norton Commando Engine Number: 313566 Frame Number: 313566 The Commando's vibration-beating Isolastic frame enabled Norton Villiers to successfully prolong the life of their hugely successful parallel twin. Launched in 1967. the Commando used the preceding Featherbed-framed Atlas model's 745cc engine and AMC gearbox. and was an instant hit with the motorcycling public. being voted Motor Cycle News’ 'Machine of the Year' for FIVE consecutive years! It might have been a little down on top speed compared to rivals such as BSA-Triumph's 750cc triples and Honda's CB750 four. but the Commando more than made up for this minor deficiency with superior mid-range torque and steadier handling. The bike offered here. of 1974 vintage. is of the last year for the improved 850 model. Actually with a capacity of 828cc. the engine is of similar power. but far less stressed for increased rideability and reliability. The bike was subject to a full restoration some years ago. and used sparingly since. with only 420 miles on the odometer since that time. Since then. it has been meticulously stored. serviced and regularly maintained with marque expert Bruce Gajjar. A matching numbers example. the bike has been built to ride with a Boyer electronic ignition for increased reliability and performance. Having not been ridden for some time. the bike was recently fully re-commissioned including brake. forks. electrical and fuel system overhaul. The bike now runs perfectly. It starts easily and idles well. The engine has great compression with strong and responsive power and the gearbox shifts smoothly through a good clutch. The brakes are excellent. especially the front – like a modern bike! – and all electrical works as it should. Cosmetically the bike is in excellent condition. the restoration has held up well. There is a ding in the steel tank. where something dropped on it in the garage. pictured. This is a fantastic opportunity to buy a true British motorcycling icon with impeccable maintenance history. in great riding condition. The bike is offered with a free and clear California title.
