1954 Norton ES2 barn fresh restoration project!

Here is a fine winter project! A classic British 500cc single. indeed one of the best! A Norton ES2 from 1954.

I don?ˆ™t really have any history on this bike but it?ˆ™s clearly been sleeping for a long long time. That said the tank must have been rechromed at some point. It is really pretty good and would polish up nicely . There?ˆ™s a new pair of knee grips also.

There is a brand new exhaust pipe. port nut . silencer & clip also but everything else is basically as found!

The forks are only loosely connected to the frame. They bounce freely. The rear suspension also bounces OK. The gearbox feel nice and all gears select OK. The engine will probably need a good soak in wd40 etc . it is not possible to turn it by hand.

It seems only the rear mudguard is in bad / only just repairable condition. The rest of the tinware inc front mudguard looks very sound.

I suppose the rear could at least be used as a pattern if you haven?ˆ™t got the patience to repair it!

The speedo is reading 67. 00 miles no idea if that?ˆ™s gen!

The bike has no documents whatsoever. It will need to be re-registered with a dating certificate to obtain an age related registration. this is an easy process that can be done by return of post to DVLA. no need for MOT or insurance.

Frame number is J4 54406. engine number is 48139 H4

Cosmetically the bike is very poor all over. apart from tank & exhaust as stated.

Wheel rims & spokes have gone past the oily rag stage and into the need to be replaced stage.

Centre stand is fitted.
