Description

This is how we like to find `em! Lovely old Norton fresh out of a mate`s shed . selling on behalf of his missus as sadly he`s gone ahead.

It`s a 1956 swinging arm 350cc Norton. Collected this morning and running by dinner time . all it needed was a wipe of the points (magneto ignition) for a spark. Tank is clean inside so fresh petrol. eased the taps and the carburretor tickled up nicely. Fresh oil in the tank bit of a squirt down the bore and she ran for the first time in year`s! This is one of those bikes that I should keep but it needs to go. Took the opprtunity to ride it . clutch works. ears work brakes work . oil mist cleared after a few minutes and it`s returning nice and clean. Engine is sweet with a lovely thump on tickover with a bit of retard.

Oily rag condition . mileage showing 26. 73 but the speedo needle shows 20mph stood still! so take this with a pinch of salt. I hope the pictures show what it`s like. Steering damper is tight and there is a bit of drag on the front brake but with a bit of fettling I think you could have a very good useable runner. Do come and view it and have a little ride. The log book is present and the number is non-transferable. Matching engine and frame numbers. A local motorcycle dealer can deliver Jax of York average cost is around ?150 . got his number for an accurate quote and you pay him direct. Cash on collection or banker`s draft with time to clear. No reserve and auction will go to the end so that means there is no buy it now. Bid with confidence for a belter of a bike. All the best Denis

Just to add . the centre stand is a bit wonky and the spring is missing . so a piece of string does the job for now.

Dynamo is present . don`t know if it`s working as it needs a battery. Steering damper has a piece missing see photo. Front tyre is perished but holds air for now. Any other questions just fire away.

. and again! this is the alloy head version which in my day gave it the edge over the previous cast iron version. These swinging arm models handled pretty well too. certainly better than the old girder forked Nortons . good old Roadholder telescopic forks and you could always tell a single cylinder Norton by the exhaust note. Happy days.
