Description

As the saying goes they are only original once. I bought this commando two years ago from the original owner. It had been in dry storage since 1989. I went through the bike only replacing what was required to bring it back to life. I used original parts off Ebay for anything I could sovery few after market replacement pieces found their way onto this bike. It didn't need much as far as external parts go as it was in very nice shape.

The owner still had the tool kit, riginal owners manual, nd the original Avon Motorcyclist Tyre Manual that they gave him with the purchase. I also have the original receipt dated June 10th, 971 from Elite Motors in London where he bought it.

I have a letter from the owner documenting the bikes journey from London to Dover, hen onto a ferry to Ostende Belgium. It was then loaded in the back of a VW bus and driven to Chiemsee Germany. He figures he put about 2,000 miles on it tooling around Germany and Austria that summer. In October of 1971 the bike was shipped to Northern Germany where it was loaded on a ship in Bremerhaven Germany and delivered to San Francisco (I also have the paperwork from the Wallenius lines out of Stocholm Sweden from October 10, 971). The bike was ridden to Medford Oregon and used through 1973. It then sat in his sister’s garage until 1983 when it was loaded in a truck and delivered to Homer Alaska and put in storage again. I bought it from the owner in August of 2013 and had it shipped to Tacoma Washington, rove up from Medford Oregon and brought it home. Just for the sake of keeping the trail alive I kept the shipping documents from Alaska to Tacoma.

Now for the bike – It’s Orange and still has the original fiberglass tank and side covers. They were buffed out and had new decals applied. The tank was cleaned and treated internally and I have only used non-ethanol fuel. The dual carbs were rebuilt and new fuel lines were installed. (I have kept all of the take off parts). New Avon tires were mounted. I did add an anti-siphon valve to keep the oil in its proper place and a mirror on the left side as these bike from England did not come with turn signals or mirrors). New brake shoes and many of the internal seals were replaced. (I have receipts for all the parts). The clutch disks werereplaced and a new battery was installed. Lots of hours hand polishing the aluminum parts.

The bike fires right, sually two kicks when cold and first kick when warmed up. As the last picture shows, his same color and Roadster was used in Norton's add for 1971.

This is a great classic motorcycle and it is rare to find one in original documented condition. The speedo works great but the odometer turns at almost the same rate so Milage is documented as low and estimated around 15,000.

Buyer will be responsible for pickup. The bike is listed locally so I reserve the right to end the auction early.
