1962 NORTON DOMINATOR . BEAUTIFUL 650cc SWEET RUNNING EXAMPLE. ORIG REG
Here is a beautiful example of the famous Norton Dominator. It starts easily hot & cold. the engine is very very sweet. This is as mechanically quiet an example of a Norton twin engine you are likely to come across! It doesn?ˆ™t rattle or smoke!
This is a great bike to ride. It handles beautifully as is well documented for the slimline featherbed frame. The front brake is a powerful twin leading shoe type. The rear is OK. The power delivery is smooth and plentiful. This bike really wants to go! Comfortable but slightly ?ˆ?prone?ˆ? straight bar riding position automatically gives a sporty feel to the bike.
I really enjoyed a good 10 mile blast around the lanes on it. It is the ideal machine for someone who likes fast good looking bikes from the cafe racer era.
The gearbox & clutch are both A1. The charging system (12V) is good. lights are good and the Smith?ˆ™s speedometer & rev counters are both working perfectly.
The bike comes with V5C document. original registration . 469 BWJ (transferable). ate of registration 02. 03. 1962
Frame number 18 97970. (matches V5C). Engine number in V5C is 18 97970 not 18SS 97970 as on the bike itself. so it?ˆ™s probably not an original engine to the bike. I am assuming this is a standard Dominator with a 650SS bottom end that has had the serial number changed at some point to match the frame & V5C.
There is an MOT valid until October 2015. The bike is not currently taxed as under the new rules this must be done by the new keeper. It is eligible for free historic tax.
Cosmetically the bike is in superb all round condition. It is very eye catching and tidy but not over-restored. It has very good paint on the frame either powder coat or stove enamel. The tank has a very nice silver/grey paint job.
Exhaust & silencers are all as new. seat is as new. Tyres are as new (Mitas ribbed front dunlop K70 rear)
Rims are Akront alloys with good clean & tidy spokes.
There is no fin damage on the engine and it is nice & oil tight.
All in all this is a superb example of a typical early?ˆ™s 60?ˆ™s cafe racer type machine. It?ˆ™s in lovely running order ready for some fine Autumn riding!
