I bought this Commando in 2007 from a seller on eBay. The bike had a non-original speedometer showing 12970 miles (which I have replaced with a "correct" speedo). so actual mileage is unknown. 1975 was the last year for the Commando. Unlike prior years. the 1975 model has electric start and left side shift. The prior owner(s) (not sure about chain of ownership) re-sealed the metal tank. painted the tank and side covers. and installed an electronic ignition. Rear wheel was replaced at some point with an Akront 18" rim. The bike was in good shape when I bought it. and I have made the following modifications/improvements (most work done by GP Motors in San Diego): replaced Amals with a single Mikuni (still have old carbs and air box); upgraded starter to four-brush Colorado Norton Works motor that works very well; installed correct speedo; new cables; new tires; new battery; anti-wet sump valve; rebuilt forks and installed Progressive springs; installed original seat; upgraded master cylinder (Old Britts kit); installed NOS side stand. The bike is now a well-sorted out vintage Norton that starts easily and runs well. It looks and sounds terrific. It is currently registered in Texas. It is located in Austin. Texas. The bike is sold "as is. " Like all British bikes. it leaks some oil. The buyer is responsible for picking it up or shipping it. I have an assortment of old manuals. vintage ads. some Norton books. all receipts. etc. Also some miscellaneous parts. I will include aIl these items with the bike if I find a buyer at the asking price. I have been a conscientious owner but do not have the time or space for all of my bikes. Thus. I am thinning the herd. If you are looking for a nice Norton that has already been sorted out. this is it. It is not a restoration.
