Description

NORBSA 650 cafe-racer for sale. 1954 Norton 88 wideline featherbed frame. 1962 BSA A65C Rocket engine. 1970s Suzuki rolling gear. I bought this bike last Summer in pretty much the condition you see it here. It was running fine. but the engine was smoking badly. so I have rebuilt the top-end with new pistons. rings. valves and guides. The bottom end showed no sign of wear. so I have left it well alone. It had a nasty little headlamp fitted. so I replaced it with one off a Honda VT250. simply because that is what I had in my shed. and it went in without too much difficulty. I have sorted out lots of little things that needed doing. and finally got it back in one piece the other day. However. the working ignition with which I tested the engine is now playing at silly buggers and only giving a weak spark. The engine tries to fire up. but won't run for long. It really needs a new loom and wiring up properly. At this point I have had enough. so have decided to sell it and let somebody else finish it off. A bit different to your normal Triton. Rebuilt engine with new +060" pistons. rings. valves and guides (big-valve head). Has done no miles at all since the engine rebuild. so will need running in and checking over. Electronic ignition. single Amal Concentric carb with bell-mouth. Twin down-pipes fitted with good condition reverse-cone silencers (not too loud). Fibre-glass tank. seat. central oil tank. front mudguard (with steel brace underneath) and half-fairing (retained by six Dzuz fasteners for quick removal). all in good condition. and fitted with indicators for safely sake. Rolling gear. clocks and controls look to be 1970s Suzuki (GT500 or GT550 at a guess). and nice clip-ons are fitted. Very good 18" chrome steel rims means the bike sits lower than some Nortons or Tritons. so suitable for the shorter rider. Front disc brake and rear drum means it should stop OK as well. Both tyres are nearly new. Engine ran well before the wiring started playing up. but the bike needs some finishing touches. The gear change lever is not very good and really needs a proper rear-set linkage made. the electrics all work (including the charging) but the wiring is a mess. so needs a new loom made up. the throttle cable is way too long and the chain guard touches the chain (not actually needed. as no rear pegs are fitted). I have the V5C in my name and the reg. number is transferable I think (it doesn't say it is not on the V5C. anyway). No MoT required and road tax exempt. of course. For sale from ?3000 and no reserve. Viewing is recommended. but I will need a bit of notice. as the bike is not stored at my house. This is an auction. so if you want it. please bid for it. Silly offers will be ignored. I reserve the right to end the listing early. as the bike is advertised elsewhere. Cash on collection or cleared funds before release. No test rides offered. as the bike will need attention before being fully road-legal. Thanks for looking. I also have a 1962 BSA A65 chopper project listed on eBay (see my other items for sale). as well as a couple of modern Triumphs (vgc 2002 955i Speed Triple and 2012 Tiger Explorer 1200). if anyone with a pre-WW2 bike is interested in a deal. Please don't bother offering me less than the start price. as I will ignore your message. Also. don't think to wait until the auction ends then offer less for it. It won't happen. The only reason the bike is offered for sale in this condition is that I have a couple of pre-WW2 bikes I want to get on with. and the NorBSA is in the way (and my knackered back means I won't be able to ride it far. anyway). I might consider a swap for an older bike. but no silly prices please. If it doesn't sell on this occasion. I have it booked in to be rewired in the new year. so I will get it properly finished then in time for Spring. and price it accordingly. So. if you want it. please bid for it. if you don't want to pay the price then don't waste my time or your own. Sorry to be such a grumpy sod at this time of year. but the moronic chancers who seem to inhabit eBay nowadays really get my goat. Bah. Humbug!!.
