Description

HISTORY: This sidecar racing outfit was imported from England and left sitting in its crate for untold years. It uses parts popular in the early 1980s but was not completed and put on the race track until 2005. I purchased it for the 2009 racing season and have made significant upgrades and modifications since then. It has been campaigned by me to several race wins in the SRA-West Formula Sidecar Series and finished 2nd overall in 2012. 1st overall in 2013. and 3rd overall in 2014. It set the overall sidecar record two years in a row in 2011-2012 (the last year there was any dirt and the first year of all asphalt) at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. DETAILS:It runs on custom built 13-inch aluminum racing wheels. with cast iron brake rotors on the front (2) and chair (1) along with a stainless steel rotor at the back. The front (2) and chair (1) calipers are vintage Formula Ford Lockheed opposed piston. while the rear is a modern aluminum Willwood. The rear/chair master cylinder is 1-inch Willwood and the front brake is set up independently to operate using a motorcycle front brake master cylinder (not included). Suspension is from Progressive shocks in the front with preload adjustment and the rear is a fully adjustable unit with a heavy spring installed. It has a plastic fuel tank (5-gal) and the fuel pump is installed within. The radiator is custom built and extremely large; I have never had overheating problem. even at 14. 10 feet during hill climb racing. WHAT IS NEEDED:There is accident damage in the rear of the passenger deck but the frame alignment has been checked since and the geometry is correct. An adjustable leading-link has been custom fabricated to allow trail changes to be made. allowing drivers to adjust the steering responsiveness. The original leading link is included which also slightly changes the front right height depending on passenger weight (this outfit prefers a heavier passenger or at least a driver that does not outweigh the passenger). The frame is set up to receive a 2005-2006 GSX-R1000 Suzuki engine (not included). This is the most popular set up on the West Coast. A 600cc engine is normally used and personally I think the machine is much more suited to a middleweight engine; 160-170hp is too much for the frame without additional reinforcement. The wiring harness is also not included. as well as the mirror. A new owner will need to have the engine install completed. a front brake master cylinder and mirror installed. and adjust the controls to fit them. The machine should also have a full inspection done by the new owner. This is the off season where I would be replacing wheel bearing and the drive chain/sprockets. Although they are not technically unserviceable. this is a race machine and such items should not be taken to their service limits. Also. the brake rotor on the chair wheel is at its wear limit and should be replaced. though it can be raced as is. especially for a new team still getting the feel for the machine. In all this is a fast race bike that has proven itself on the track but is also in need of some routine maintenance/replacement. It can be raced as-is by installing the engine and front brake but before a racing season is over it would need several parts replaced. Better to do it at the beginning if possible. OFFER DETAILS:Obviously this is a race machine so no warranty whatsoever is offered and there is no title as it is not operated on an highway or public lands. The specific model year of the frame is unknown. It has been campaigned on-track since 2005. Shipping is entirely up to the buyer although arrangements can be made in advance (before making an offer) for me to deliver within the western United States. Ask questions before making an offer. Vehicle is available for inspection by appointment. The price reflects the need for significant fabrication work to install an engine. Any buyer who wants the machine sold complete may offer but a significant price increase should be expected. No shipping arrangements will be made until payment is received and clear in full.
