1968 Velosolex 3800 in excellent running order

I am selling this nice. idy 1968 Velosolex 3800  that is in excellent running order.

It has had a full engine rebuild with new crankshaft. block etc. The block was a brand new one without an engine number and the man I purchased the bike from has stamped it with the same number that the original engine had. The old block is in the pannier to prove this.

The bike is a square  framed 3800 model which if you are looking for a Velosolex to use regularly is the best model as it has the most powerful engine. best brakes and is the easiest to get parts for.

The Velosolex was invented in 1946 and was intended to get the French population mobile again after the war at the lowest possible cost. It was so successful that by the time production in France ended in the early 1980`s over 12 million had been built. There were several different models over the years and this bike is one of the square frame bikes that first appeared in 1966.

Cosmetically i would describe the bike as very tidy and original but not immaculate. It has a nice patina and looks just right for a 47 year old  bike. It bears the original gold pinstripes on the mudguards. The chrome on the wheels and handlebars is not perfect but very presentable.

It does have a couple of nice features  that set it apart a little bit from a standard bike. It has a nice period speedo (not really needed on a Solex). It drives straight off the front tyre. I have seen these for sale in French autojumbles for up to ?75! It also has a set of period panniers in tatty but usable condition complete with period stickers from the town near where I bought the bike (St Armand Montrond) which is widely regarded as the town nearest to the geographical centre of France.

The tyres are in excellent condition and the bike needs nothing doing. It is absolutely ready to go. It starts within a couple of metres as a good Solex  should and rides very well. I have been using this bike around my town and would say it goes very well.

Unusually the bike has a French log book in my name and is fitted with its French registration plate. The bike was in daily use by the mechanic owner up to the day I bought it.

All in all a nice bike that can be used straight away and if you have a French property can be registered in your name in a few days and never need and mot! Just insure in France (30 euros) and away you go. I can give the winning bidder the name of an excellent parts supplier in the UK who stocks all service parts including tyres posted from within the UK.

Please note that this bike is at present in the town of CHABRIS in the Indre department (36) of central France. For a price of ?40 I can arrange delivery to the Worthing area on the South coast of the UK a few days after the end of the auction. You can collect at your convenience from there. delivery to other UK destinations is possible but please contact me for a price.

Alternatively you are welcome to come to France to collect the bike and I will offer the winning bidder one nights free accommodation in our B&B.

Payment is by cash on collection if you are coming to get the bike from Worthing or France or by cleared sterling cheque or bank transfer  if you are having the bike delivered.
