Rare Original Made in America 1949-1953 Simplex Servi-cycle 3 Wheel Truck The Simplex manufacturing Corporation produced around 100 three Wheel trucks from 1949 to 1956. Of those 100 only 15 are known to exist today making this an extremely rare collectable bike. Records indicate that the early models 1949-1953 had the brake hubs to the outside of the wheels. a solid jackshaft drive system and the dimpled floorboards. This 3 wheel Simplex has all three of those features leading me to believe it is dated between 1949-1953. When I bought this Simplex 15 years ago it was an older restoration. I bought it from a gentleman in North Carolina who knew the bikes history back to the original owner. The bike was originally purchased and owned by the "Atomic Energy Commission Oak Ridge National Laboratory" in Tennessee also documented by their tag on the box. "See Pics" . During the fifteen years I have completed the following work on the bike. The motor #M20432B was completly disasembled and rebuilt. The cylinder was not bored but cleaned and dressed and then fitted with a standard piston and new rings. The cylinder has no broken fins. The Crankshaft is in great condition with a good keyway. The flywheel magneto was completly rebuilt with a new old stock correct 2 wire ignition coil. and new points. condensor. lighting coil. magneto breaker cam and all new wiring. The flywheel is also in great condition and the keyway is good on it also. The motor was reassembled using all new bushings. bearings. gaskets and hardware. Also present on this motor is the hard to find air cleaner and the correct tillotson MT1D carburetor which has also been completely rebuilt with new jets. needles. springs and gaskets. The automatic transmission and the idler assembly was completely disassembled and rebuilt with all new bushings. bearings and clutch shoe linings. All 3 wheels and hubs were disassembled media blasted inside and out repainted and reassembled with the correct new stainless steel spokes. nipples. new bearings and seals. Both rear wheel pulleys have been media blasted repainted and reattached to the wheels with the correct new clips. spacers and hardware. Present on this Simplex 3 wheel truck is the correct KD869 scootlite headlight. taillight and housing. muffler. MT1D carburetor. handgrips. kickstart. seat. gas tank and gas cap. All new. new old stock. chrome. electrical. rubber. tires. gaskets. hardware and reproduction parts were obtained from Wayne Mahaffey in Alabama. I have seen detailed pictures of three other original Simplex 3 wheel trucks with painted marine grade plywood boxs. My plan was to build and install the same on this 3 wheel truck as the metal original box held water at one time. has rust and has been repaired numerous times. It is still very presentable on the bike. At one time I believe this bike may have been fitted with the foot clutch manual transmission as evidenced by extra tabs on the frame. I believe the automatic transmission it is fitted with now is the correct set up. 2 of the tires are new with the correct Simplex script molded into them. they are showing weather checking but hold air fine. I have run the motor and trans they both work fine. The new flywheel cover could use a gasket as it is rubbing the new pinion gear. I am not a Simplex expert please do your own research.
