Description

Scooter enthusiasts will instantly recognize this Heinkel 103 A-1 scooter as one of the premier European scooters of the 1960s. This scooter continues to be used by enthusiasts in Europe to tour for days on end with a sleeping bag on the fold down front luggage rack and a duffle on the rear luggage rack.

I purchased this scooter as a barn find that was 99% complete and very original. Over a period of a couple of years I performed an extensive restoration on the scooter. Since the completion of restoration in 2010 I have only ridden it a few times. It needsto be used much more thanI have used it! This scooter also has a stablemate that I have listed; a 1958 Heinkel Kabine microcar. It is amazing how much these two have in common when you look closely under the bodywork!

The restoration of this scooter began with a total disassembly to the bare frame. The frame was detailed using the proper color gray on the frame. The fork was reinstalled with new bearings and new motor mounts were fitted to the rear of the chassis.

The engine was completely rebuilt including new rings, askets, arb rebuild, oints, ynastart brushes, tc. The engine cooling tins were repainted with the proper color paint. New batteries were installed at the completion of the assembly.

The body was in excellent shape and required very little bodywork prior to paint. The body parts were abrasive blasted and primed using epoxy primer. Audi Amulet Red basecoat clearcoat was then applied. The legshield was painted black which was the original color scheme.

The rebuilt engine was then installed in the detailed frame and a new wiring harness was added. Handlebar controls were installed with new cables for brakes, hrottle, hifter, nd speedometer.

New tires and tubes were installed on powdercoated rims to complete the rolling, unctional scooter. The freshly painted bodywork was added along with new seat base, oam padding, nd seat cover from Germany. The turn signals were only found on export models and are the original signals that would have been added in 1960.

The replated rear luggage rack and accessory legshield guards topped off the detail that sets this scooter apart from others that may have made it to the States.

If you are looking for a nice restoration of a rare and desirable German scooter, his may be what you have been looking for. If you have any questions or would like additional pictures of a particular area please message me through eBay.
