This Venom was owned by a Velo enthusiast. who died some time after dismantling it. It was left after the other heirs had fought over all the rest. and my friend who inherited it asked me to assist in selling it. We can't find a logbook. but I am sure that a replacement can be obtained. As the bike is in the owners garage. it may take a little longer than usual to answer further queries or take further pictures. but please inquire if necessary. I always endeavor to give a very accurate description. There are some poor parts. as follows: Clutch & dual seat are VERY rusty. Silencer has a hole at the lower front. Exh pipe is tatty. Pushrod ends can be refaced. and engine studs/bolts may be restoreable. Rear chain is rotten. Front mudguard stays are very crude alloy tube. I can't find the dyno belt. Good points: Mudguards are strong stainless. Front rim is good alloy. Bore is standard 86mm. Mag & dyno. Monobloc carb are complete. Frame is sound. and most parts look restoreable. There is an original price list of all spares. a manual and also a Roy Bacon '56-70 Venom/Thruxton book. Good sidecar tyres are fitted. so it must have had a chair fitted for a while. I can't tell if the engine fairings have been altered in any way. I'll have a further search to see if any small parts are missing. It would be a satisfying winter project. Velos are excellent singles. good even today. Collection would be preferable. although buyers could have more idea than me about sending a whole bike in pieces! *** Please note: a very helpful Velocette enthusiast/restorer/rider has just informed me that the Veeline models had a FULL fairing. and also that the engine fairings were a standard fitting on all Venoms/Vipers. After 50+ years. my memories are a trifle vague!
On 13-Oct-14 at 12:49:16 BST. seller added the following information:*** Further missing parts: Engine sprocket/dyno drive assembly. One footrest. Top pushrod adjuster cover. Primary chain. although I could find a new Renold primary chain from my parts. The spare gearbox parts have some rust. but not that it would cause problems. Further good parts: Headlamp. cowling. speedo. ammeter. switch. etc. Another very helpful Velo owner has offered to check the authenticity of the year & regn no from the engine/frame numbers. I'll try to publish his reply if he agrees.
