This is for a 1971 Maico 501 2-stroke dirt bike. I bought it from the 2nd owner who had had it since 1981This was the first year on this model. RARE. It comes with something impossible to get on this bike: Street Legal Title! I hate to sell it but have to move out of state unexpectedly. Does not have any lights. signals. mirrors or electrical. It's up to the new owner if you want to add these. It looks like it had an amateur restoration before it was stored for many years. Tires are new-looking but more than 10 yrs old so have some weather cracking. The top and bottom ends were supposedly rebuilt and a new clutch hub from a 400 (?) was installed as they couldn't find a 501 hub. according to the prior owner. I've only ridden it down the block and back. Starts. runs but needs carb cleaned and a thorough going-over (whole bike). It's very loud and scary fast! Idles a little high. has aftermarket cables and decompression release. I'd probably install some better ones. The chain and sprocket appear to be in decent condition. with some surface rust. Obviously. it has been painted over the original red and was an amateur job. Rear brake pedal appears to be aftermarket. It looks like the frame might have been repaired by the side stand which I understand is common on these as the side stand is long and awkward. The seat cover has a few holes. see photos. The front rim is original I believe. It's an Akront rim. The rear looks like a DID. The prior owner says it was on there when he got the bike. He thought it was original but I'm not sure. These bikes are very hard to find with a street legal title and are commanding some pretty good money at auction. restored or not. My reserve is fair. IMPORTANT: FOR PICK UP ONLY. Please check Uship and similar operators for your shipping options. There are lots of reputable and not expensive shippers out there. Feel free to ask any questions though I don't know a lot more about it than what I've already written here.
