Here we have a gorgeous little Velo solex 5000 for auction of 1972 vintageIts a sad day but over the next few weeks i will be liquidizing my collection  of mobylettes and solex and velo solex of many ages i have accumulated many many models over the years and they have been dry stored in the barn. there must be more than 50 examples The said barn has now got approval from the commune to be converted into living space to enlarge the house so it will no longer be a barn. a smaller ready made shed  in wood has  been purchased but there will be no where near the ample space i had to accommodate  crazy  collection. nbsp;rather than see it go as a job lot im going to put them on the free ads so they go to good homes. i was passionate about these before they became cool. and in my 20s friends used to laugh at what attracted me to them. I think its just the simple innocence and quirky french engineering that makes the charm irrespective of being made famous by mr Bean and Bridget bardot etc . nbsp; The latest thing in Paris at present is that the CEO of companies bring a Solex to work . suited up and all. nbsp;This particular version was the last of the famous velosolex. the top of the range 5000 !   its probably not any faster than the others but over the years slight changes were made and this model benefited from all the . eh research and design that they accomplished over the years since the 1950s when the first started to appear. here is a revised cantilever system to drop the engine onto the wheel with much more finesse and ease than the old hook system. lights that can actually be used at night . the more porper exhaust just makes a nice ting ting and is not intrusive. nbsp;operating the front brake descends the engine revs  via throttle. nbsp; braking design improved with a rear drum and different front brake calipers.  wider wheels .  its a cleaner and less bulky look than the first ones which were just bicycles with engines. this model also has the optional  chrome protection  bar around the engine. and the 'sacoches' side bags each side specially for the model and in white leather or plutot imitation leather. This model starts with ease in a few metres . very tight engine with great compression. hardly even needs choke. she seems be in perfect tune and whizzes to quite a high redline when warmed up . im not sure what top speed is but 30-40 kmh i would think . lights work great. it starts easier  and revs higher than my earlier models . maybe due to being well set up or minor ignition or carburetor changes over the years. these are as french as the baguette and the beret. everyone should ride one in their life.  easiest thing there is to ride. no motorcycle or scooter experience necessary. no big muscles needed. if you can ride a bike this is probably easierregistration on these anicen cycles  is mandatory since early  last year. registration is free. However this is not enforced by police or anyone and you can do it or you can not bother.  seeing my collection i have not bothered except with  1 moblette which i use daily .  one needs to write a deceleration stating it was in the family or was bought at some car boot sale and that. it but its not always as simple as that being France. I will provide a proper french certificate of transfer of ownership with this bike and a receipt to simplify your re registration in the UK.  think as a bicycle it has an annual 15 pound tax or something. stand corrected if that is wrong. Chrome near perfect. slight rust mist on an area of the handlebars. proper michelin cyclo moteur tyres with white walls and in good condition. the bike is ready to go needs nothing. contrary to popular opinion  its not as simple or as cheap  as one thinks to get  a Solex or Mobylette in France. since they became cool the good ones never make it to the car boot sales they change hands privately . and the ones that do are rough and incomplete and they are asking 500 euro minimum these days and any haggling is cockily  shut down right away that's how much the demand is  .  for this reason  i don't do car boots sales. his here would be a prime example from my knowledge of Solexs. i dont claim be an expert but i know them pretty well. this would probably have been a local bike all its life. most were in storage for 10 or 20 years when the car became affordable. shows very little signs of anywhere. would imagine brake shoes and things are original. I have a small video made of it running but for the moment can not upload it. will try work out how. There would not be example of this quality for sale every day of the week. nbsp;For someone who wants to jump on and ride. or stash it at the back of the camper. this is a good example. no leaks . no stains no grease. o maintenance at all really .  its probably cleaner than a dog !Located in Poitou charentes region. a very dry climate which helps preserve anything oldi go to London regularly and am prepared to do a drop off on this bike pretty much anywhere round the area. if you are way out of London it obviously wont pay me to travel all day in traffic to deliver but we can talk a drop off point. please feel free to bid and we can work out delivery. im in no particular rush. if your interested in organizing your own courier   this can go to anywhere in the world really.  Usa - Australia - Asia  . think you need simply to drain the petrol tank so its dry and not flammable and it can be layed on a pallet and cling wrapped for air or shipping. nbsp;Happy bidding
