Description

1985 Cobra Convertible trike project. Needs restoration.   Built in Indiana in 1985 this trike has seen 50. 00 of travel up and down the east coast. It has a heavy steel frame. a Chevrolet 5. 7 litre 350cu in. engine with a simple Rochester 2 bbl carburetor. a 1964 Chevrolet Corvette 2-speed Powerglide automatic transmission. and a non-narrowed Ford 9 inch rear end.   It has a 41mm Harley Davidson SoftTail front end with billet trees. and a 4 link adjustable coil-over rear suspension. Rear brakes are stock Ford drums. and the front is a single disc Harley. The radiator is under the body and has a scoop to catch moving air. It is a custom radiator bult out of a giant ford radiator. I have an electric fan. but it is not installed.  Without a fan. this will overheat in dead stopped traffic in about 20 minutes.   The wiring and switch are there. it just needs to be mounted. It also has a trans cooler which keeps the trans nice and cool. The whole thing weighs less than 2000 lbs. It has a 10 gallon fuel tank and gets approx. 15 mpg. The battery is strong. and the alternator puts out great power. The tires are good and it has matching aluminum rims. It has a lein-free NJ motorcycle title.

The motor runs strong. makes plenty of power. doesn?ˆ™t smoke or burn oil. The transmission shifts perfectly. and it goes down the road beautifully gathering attention everywhere it goes. If you don?ˆ™t like attention. this is not for you. It?ˆ™s like being in your own parade. It has an AM/FM CD player and 2 speakers. full gauges. and some LED lighting.

This is a very comfortable trike to ride. seats three people. and offers protection from the wind. allowing conversations while riding.   I have had my fun with this. and it?ˆ™s time to try something new.   The whole top assembly with windshield and bars is completely removable to make an open roadster.

The trans has a little leak. I believe it?ˆ™s by the speedometer drive. the chrome on the pipes is rusted. and the body needs to be re-upholstered. There is damage to the upholstery and seat on the left side. I have a canvas top for it. but it is not usable but can be used for a pattern. Many chrome bits could use re-chroming.  The paint on the frame is chipping. and the pint-stripping is fading. I restored this last in 2006. but it?ˆ™s time to do it again. and I haven?ˆ™t the time or energy to do it again. I had my fun with it. and now have new toys. It will not take too much time or money to make this thing cherry again. and you can customize it to your own taste.

You can still buy these trikes and can see new models at http://www. renegadetrikes. com/

Renegade Trike Corp. produces a manufactured trike "from the ground up" which has been built since January of 1982 (excluding some of the earlier prototypes). The company first became known as Cobra Trikes which it remained until the mid 90's. At that time. the name was changed to Ecstasy because of the inability to acquire a copyright on the Cobra name. Under the Ecstasy branding. the Renegade line was formed in the late 1990's. The company was reorganized in 2007 making Renegade Trike Corp. the manufacturing arm of the Ecstasy Renegade.

The base kits are over 20 grand with no powertrain. This is a project! You need to be mechanically inclined to own this beast that uses old technology. I don?ˆ™t need or have to sell this. but I?ˆ™m putting it out there for that special person who wants something different and unique. It can be driven home. or flat bedded to your location. Feel free to ask me any questions. or to come see it before bidding.   I am located about 10 miles West of the George Washington Bridge. I am available most days to show it.   If you are looking for a unique winter project. this is it!  Good Luck Bidding!
