Description

I  have for sale this rare  1957 1010 model  velosolex moped. It is in tidy but not immaculate condition. It is in excellent mechanical order and is ready to use.

The Velosolex  was created at the end of the second world war as cheap transport to get the French mobile again after hostilities ended. It was a huge success and over the next thirty years over 12 million were built. There is now an excellent owners club in the UK and  Velosolexes have grown in popularity  enormously lately and make very practical every day transport returning  about 180 mpg and a top speed of about 25 mph. They are also great fun and  a great conversation piece.

The 1010  was built for less than two years from April 1957 to  September 1958. It has the sought after round frame and it unusual to find one for sale in running order. Being a 1957 bike it does not require an Mot.

This particular  bike has had a thorough mechanical overhaul and starts within one metre as a good solex should. It runs fine and has a lovely quiet engine. The brake cables have been changed and  both front and back lights work (very unusual).

Cosmetically I would describe this bike as tidy. It looks right for a 57 year old bike that still bears its original paint. If you want a bike that looks  perfectly at home outside a French  cafe this fits the bill perfectly. There are plenty of marks and scratches on the bike plus some surface rust but no serious rot. The chrome is acceptable for its age. The saddle is the correct leather one and is in very unable condition. It has the very rare correct rear light in good condition. What the bike does have is plenty of originality  and character.

As this bike has never been registered there is no log book but I will supply the winning  bidder with a French cession de vehicle certificate and receipt in French and English to assist with registration in the UK.

Please note that this bike is at present in the town of Chabris in the Indre department  (36) of central  France. For a price of  ??40 I can arrange delivery to Worthing  one week after the end of the auction. The bike can also be collected from the Kempton Park autojumble on December 5th for the same price. Other destinations are available but please email me for a price.

Payment is by cleared sterling cheque if you are having the bike delivered or cash on collection if you are coming to collect it. If you are unsure about the payment methods contact me and we can sort  something out. Happy to store the bike until you can collect if needed.

Alternatively you are welcome to come here to collect the bike and I will offer the winning bidder one nights free accommodation in our B&B.

Any questions please email me or call from the UK on 0033 254051245
